Does your Jeep's windows ever fall down?
This is the second time one of my windows fell down (not on the floor i mean as if you put the window down) and when i try and put it back up it makes a loud sound as if something is jammed or the motor is burnt out. It is another window this time and i am getting it fixed now. But why is this happening?

no its alright, i am getting it fixed under warranty. I just don't understand why it keeps doing this

i dont know exactly how the libbys is designed.. but

basically your window is in tracks.. and below that is a kind of pair of scissors with wheels on the top.. when you window motor goes it powers the scissors and moves the window up and down.

Don't know why a new one is giving you problems, but I do know one thing that'll break a power window beyond repair......

Son's '97 Grand Cherokee was covered in ice, his sister got in the passenger side, and for what reason we still don't understand, but she hit the button to lower the window. So of course since the window wouldn't come down, she kept hitting the button......the motor ended up pulling the track apart, and when the Jeep thawed out, the window dropped down inside the door.....

I ended up duct taping the window in place, and it stayed that way until he traded it in on a Compass......

Its the plastic clip that holds the window to a coil like pipe cleaner looking thing that raises it up and down.. its help on by a tiny piece of plastic and they break all the time.. only fix is this right here.. http://www.steigerperformance.com

this one will be a permanent fix.. the one your getting under warranty will only keep breaking.

there are a couple DIY fixes but its a pain to get it right and strong enough.. i tried a few times and after a week or two they broke again.. for now my driver rear window is ziptied up from the inside to be up and clean looking.. when i get around to it.. steigerperformance replacement is what I'm doing

If it breaks again while your still in boca and you get a steiger, I'll help you put it in. I've had my door torn apart like 4 times messing with it. Did a buddy of mines too.

Its a different window this time. It was first my passenger side window then today it was my left rear.

Your probably right about the warranty one not doing good though.

They replace it with the same exact thing. 06's were the worst years for this.. Guys have replaced all of their windows multiple times until their warranty ran out.. If your getting it dont for free i mean it is free cant beat that but if you get sick of having broken windows and dealing with stealerships service center. I'd say steiger and your done.

I second the Steiger kit... Go on their website and look at the pictures, they show how it breaks, etc.

Was stupid to use plastic in that application, but everyone does stuff like that these days. If mine every break, so far so good knock on wood, i know i will just strap it up and order a kit from Steiger, cause i'm only going to take the bugger apart ONCE and be done with it.

One habit that will increase the longevity of any window regulator assy (trouble prone or not) is to not lower the window all the way down into the door. If you leave about 1/2" of window above the sill, that will provide a lot of extra lateral support for the heavy upper part of the glass window. This is especially helpful for the window assembly when closing the door (or worse when your kids accidently SLAM the door shut). The heavy glass window won't rattle back and forth as much if you leave it slightly above the sill seal. Also, my Jeep's "express down" feature slams the window into the 'down stops' if you don't interupt the auto feature just before the window reaches the 'down stop'. Result...., fewer door/window rattles in the long run. JMO

Yeah I stopped using the auto down feature when my rear window broke. It pulls it down then puts a little more torque on the plastic parts.

No scissors. It's a signal Track located in the middle of the window that regulator goes up and down on. At least that how the back windows are.

i just replaced my back driver door regulator and motor two weeks ago. the gears in the motor stripped and it wouldn't pull the window up or down anymore. Funny thing is I actually had a hard time getting the window off the old regulator. It was a pain to even break it so I can get the window to release. i brought a refab regulator and motor setup off e-bay for $125 ($105 after you send back your broken part.) comes with a life time warranty. It was cheaper and quicker than going to the dealer. Dealer wants about $500-600 if they fix it.

never had one break since I had my Jeep but since I'm out of warranty and there is not recall yet I will by the Steiger fix. Question... if you are in warranty is there now a deductable you have to pay that is pretty much the same as the cost of the Steigher fix?

If you're replacing the regulator Steiger's part is the only way to go! It's made of metal and not the cheap plastic garbage.

HOWEVER!!! If you have an '06 or '07, *BEFORE* you order anything, to save yourself a headache, pop the door panel off and verify which type of regulator you have in your doors. I have an '07. At 11,000 miles my left rear regulator failed. The dealer replacement for these is an older type unit as in the '05 and earlier Libbies. My left rear failed again at 29,000 miles. According to Steiger, the dealers are supposed to put a sticker on the door stating different than stock parts have been used. Mine did not. :rolleyes:

Jon at Steiger has fantastic information on the website with pictures of the different regulators. Check before you buy or you'll be returning the wrong part and waiting for the correct one like me. ](*,)

Last week I replaced the right side rear myself with a Steiger regulator unit. It's a pretty easy fix. Took me about 2 hours (with interruptions with work phone calls and drink breaks) Once you see the Steiger part and how easy it is to install, you'll just do away with the factor regulators when they fail.
