2011 KK Renegade
New here. I'm happy to get opinions on what I'm about to do.
Problem: My partner cannot drive the car, due to the driver's seat not moving forward close enough for their feet to reach the pedals. It used to, but it just quit returning to the programed position and the manual adjustment switch doesn't move the seat forward enough.
The driver's seat won't slide through it's full range of motion. It will move fwd a hair, and backward when the key is removed from the ignition, but it will not move through it's full range using the control switch.
The "fore" and "aft" movement of the 6-way driver's seat is controlled by the lower motor assembly.
I attempted to 'reset' the system by disconnecting the (-) battery cable for 30 min. I attempted to teach it the full range, as per a few videos on YT from cherokee owners, by using the seat adjustment switch to move it fwd & back. Didn't work.
I have removed the seat, and dismantled the lower motor assembly. I called a Jeep dealer and was informed that the Motor assembly had been discontinued. Their suggestion was to call around to salvages to try and find one. RIGHT
I tested the resistance on the motor, but I haven't found any info on what those readings ought to register. Between the outermost of the 4 terminals of the motor, there is 3 ohms of resistance. Between the inner two terminals, there is no reading. Any combination of the terminals OTHER than the outermost terminals doesn't offer resistance.
SO...my options...as I see them
1. Buy a used lower motor assembly from a salvage/ebay (currently there is 1 on ebay for about $100). This is nuts, as I cannot test the motor assembly from ebay, and at a salvage I'll have to bring a battery and HOPE that the electronics are hooked up so that I can test the motor....but even then I'm buying a piece of used chrysler electronics...it could work fine for a week then die. No thanks.
2. Try and find something aftermarket.
3. Replace seat with a non-powered model from a salvage (Partner hates this idea, as they'll lose the seat heater).
4. Modify the current railing to remove motor, drill holes at the 2 seat settings we need, and add a hitch pin to hold seat in one of those places.
If anyone has input, I would be happy to hear it. When searching this forum and others, I pretty much come across people attempting to swap their manual 2-way seats for the powered 6-way seats. Those people are crazy, IMHO...who wants to bring MORE chrysler electronics into their lives? Masochists.
Side note, WTF isn't there an mechanical override for the electronic seat? I haven't found a way to move the seat without the motor.
