Hey all -- I've seen a few other threads about this here, but nothing in them seemed to fix my issue, hopefully somebody has an idea.

2003 3.7L Liberty. Driver side brakelight keeps going out, we've replaced the bulb several times over the years but it goes out rather frequently. Passenger side sometimes goes out but mostly seems to be the driver side (and once the top brakelight, but bulb swap fixed that).

Couple weeks ago, driver side brakelight goes out again. The turn signal and reverse light work just fine, it's only the top light on that side. Bulb had exploded, as usual (I've seen the info about that plastic piece inside), so we swapped it out, but still didn't work. Got a new socket for that bulb and swapped it out, still nothing. Replaced the fuse (#23) just in case, even though it didn't look corrupted, but still nothing. The connecters look fairly clean on the assembly itself for that upper socket, cleaned them anyway, still nothing.

I've read a few things about the fuse number being the wrong one, but only one I found to check was #7, which is an empty slot that won't take a fuse in our Liberty. Heard something about a circuit board, but not sure where to start about that. Out of ideas though, and that top bulb still not working despite brand new fuse, bulb, and socket, and the turn signal/reverse are functioning just fine. Any help would be appreciated!

Fuse #23 on the inside fuse panel is generally the fuse for both lower brake lights. Upper brake light is on a different circuit and uses a different grounding point.

Cannot think why left brake bulb keeps blowing....sure it is a good quality make of correct wattage?

You need to measure the voltage at the top brake light to see if +12 volts is there with reference to its ground wire and with reference to a good clean chassis point...in case the ground actually got itself disconnected.
