EGR Delete without tune, what happens?

Hey guys, my '06 CRD is at the mechanic right now to have the exhaust manifold repaired. I'm also having them do an EGR delete. I have a kit for that.

They won't be able to tune it though. It will be a while before I'll have time to do the tune.

Can I drive the Jeep normally with the EGR deleted and no tune? I'm sure there will be a CEL but will it actually affect the running of the engine? I don't really care about a CEL as long as it runs fine.

It should be fine without a tune, and happier, and cleaner inside, and introducing less abrasive crud inside the engine. Will probably have a check engine light.
