After my lift, I'm feeling poor! Also, I'm thinking a mechanical fan would more reliable. What vehicle would I be able to get a fan & clutch which would fit the front of my 2003 3.7?

Thanks!

Youre correct thinking that its more reliable. More so if you go offroad in mud alot since the electric fan tends to fail when caked with mud.

Any liberty with the towing pack and I THINK any WJ with the 4.7L engine and towing pack has the engine driven fan.

Im not sure if the WK with the 3.7l or 4.7l engine uses the same fan.

dont be dumb
up grade the electric fan
a mechanical fan will only push as much air as the engine turns fast
so at slow off road speeds very little air flow
I would say about 1/2 of what an electric fan pulls

Why do you think all the "real off roaders" put electric fans on their CJ ,YJ, or TJ even the XJ's do it and now all the new Jeeps come with electric fans

I can tell you first hand that electric is better or I hope so
I have a TJ with a mechanical fan ,failed once, out on the trail in 90* heat with no AC the engine still gets hot now I have hood louvers and it is better but not where I want it to be the same trail in the same heat the wife was in her KJ with the AC ON and normal driving temp all day

Before you buy anything, remove the shroud and then the fan motor. Disassemble the motor (very easy) and see if there is dry mud caked on the brushes which will cause no electrical contact on the comutator shaft. This has happened to me and others that play in mud, just clean off the mud, allow to dry, and reassemble. Or possibly the brushes are worn out or broken and can be replaced very cheaply.

Thats right thompson but I think having both is even better. The KJ's with the towing pack came with both an electric fan and mechanical fan so you shouldnt ever have a problem with BOTH failing.

Alot of offroaders do use electric fans but I bet theirs dont fail as easy as the kj's stock fan does in mud.

The xj also came with both an electric and mechanical fan from the factory.
