This is my first post so please be gentle.
This problem is very similar to another post I found on these forums with the same title. Here is the link http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f196/electrical-problems-p1491-p1682-41911/
I had the same 2 codes with my 2003 Jeep Liberty. I was driving to work one morning a few days ago and my check engine light came on. Perhaps 20 seconds later my battery warning light came on.
I drove it to a local garage ( Not a Jeep dealership ) and let them have it for the day. They replaced the radiator relay and told me it was also the reason for my battery warning light to be lit.
Here it is a few days later and my battery warning light is lit up again with the code P1682 which I checked using the ignition on off 3-times trick.
I am worried that the relay was fine and in fact its my alternator causing the issue. I was charged a lot of money to replace the relay ( $89.95 for Diagnostic scan - $80.50 for the relay and $59.96 for labor )
Any advice on how I should handle this with the garage?
Wanted to add an additional note:
I had no problems driving home after the battery warning light came on again and this was with the headlights, radio and heater on.
I let the Jeep sit ( off ) for about 45 minutes before I left to take it to the garage. When I started it up, the battery warning light was NOT lit. It did light up again about 5 minutes later while driving down the highway.
It is at the garage now so I do not have access to it.
I called a local Pepboys and they quoted me $280 to replace the Alternator.
I have not looked up prices for PCM but I do know they can be expensive.
