Same engine basically, just transfer your accessories, sensors, etc.

they changed the reluctor wheel (on the crank) at some point! you have to get the right motor with the right reluctor wheel. i believe it changed in 04? mike

Won't it matter that he probably has a 45RFE transmission? Also what about programming the computer for that?

I'd keep looking for one from a KJ with the 45RFE to be safe.

Or, swap in a CRD engine/******/programming... :D

not sure what were doing with the old engine it is my cuzs jeep I am just doinig it for them at my shop I am guessing that I just need to swap the sensors from the 02 onto the new engine but want to check as the 04 engine is 550 and the cheapest 02 around me is 1800 with 135k on it

the old engine isnt bown yet just making some noise and it has 185k on it they want a new one in stead of fixing this one idk not my car

Why not remove / rebuild and reinstall the esisting engine in the KJ? You'll get a motor with 0 miles on it again and probably end up with a small warranty in the process..?

You'll have to find a 2002 block or reuse yours as far as I know.

Why won't an '04 3.7 bolt up to a 45RFE? Did Jeep change the bolt pattern the bell housing bolts up to when they went from the 45RFE to the 42RLE?

Okay. I'm drawing a blank. Spline count on what?

Flywheel bolts to the crank, torque converter bolts to the flywheel, transmission engages with the torque converter.

Am I missing something. kopkrab.gif

Also considering the 03' model year came with either of the trans i'm sure they didn't change the bolt pattern of the bell housing or on the block, they should be interchangeable in that sense.
