Euro Spec KJ Headlamp problem

Please Help: Euro Spec KJ Headlamp problem

I need to change both headlamps... My KJ has the Export Package (or "Euro Spec") and the headlamps are a little different from the US spec headlamps...

The Export ones haves a tiny W5W inside and the main bulb is a H4 (instead a 9007). The Export ones also have 2 regulations: up/down and left/right. The Export models doesn't keep the turn-lights on when the headlights are on... Oh! and I can keep my high lights and fog lights on at the same time from factory...

Well... the thing is the Export spec lamps (55155812AD and 55155813AD) are almost impossible to find and extremely expensive...

So I was thinking in change them for the US spec headlamps... I also find that the wiring is different... Although I clearly prefer keep the Export spec headlamps...

Any ideas?

I suppose it depends on how quickly you need them.

Buy them from Europe, although the cost of postage will probably make it too expensive.

I think prices per bulb range from £3 to £20. Don't ask what the difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones are, although the cheap one I fitted in mine seems to be fine.

As regarding a trade, the shipping will kill the deal for you, besides they aren't in mint condition... they have dust inside and one of them have one of the regulations broken...

A thing that I learned is that the 9007 bulbs have a seal integrated, but the H4 bulbs are just that, bulbs... so the Euro spec housing has a rubber boot that seals the headlamp assembly and the bulb... this rubber boot came loose (on both headlapms) before I bought the KJ... the headlamps were already dusty inside... I tried to clean one of them and I broke one of the regulator threads, which was made of a very bad quality plastic.

So I'll move to a US spec KJ headlamps with 9007 bulbs (55155808AB y 55155809AB for USD 30 each) and I'll have to buy a new front markers (for USD 30... thanks ClydeFrog for the idea) and bulbs (3157 P27/7W and 168) and the hardest part: a US spec wiring (55155946AA for USD 100)... all of that will be cheaper than the Euro spec headlamps (USD 600 each )...

I can use a little help here...

I can't trace the original headlamp wiring harness... I start in the headlamps and get lost in the myriad of wires...

someone knows where it ends by any chance?

I have the Euro spec 2002 2.5 CRD that also takes the H4 lamps. What plastic part did you actualy break on your headlamp? I normaly fix broken plastic parts by meting the plastic bits together by means of a warm soldering iron. I think it will be a lot of work to convert to the USA specs. The headlamp wires basicaly find their way to the fuse box inside the cab eventualy...there are also relays and connectors involved.Go to www.jeepforum.com there is a sticky there for the KJ repair manual (2002/2003)..download section 8, wiring diagrams, it will give you the circuit diagrams, locations of components etc. I found this extremely valuable. I also upgraded my H4 lamps to 100W/80W which are a lot brighter but not legal in some countries..to take the extra current I fitted extra relays and fuses but am actualy now using Hella Nightbreakers 65W/55W I think...also very good and definitely legal!

One of the regulator threads... I think it was the one who controls the vertical angle... so now the left headlamp is aiming to the floor.

We are a undeveloped country... what's illegal and what's not it's kind of random... here, you can put 10.000K xenon bulbs in non-projector lamps and nobody care... :shrug:

Thanks for the idea, but the main problem is that the KJ isn't that popular here... Just to put this thing in perspective: When new my '03 KJ was around USD 40,300 (I have the invoice) and in '07 I bought it for USD 17,000... the minimum wage here is less than USD 325 per month... Most of the brand new cars here doesn't have airbags, ABS, etc... A Jeep it's almost a luxury vehicle...

The only place you can find used parts are in shops... they bought cars to disassemble and sell the parts... there isn't proper salvage yards... Find a totaled KJ it's almost impossible and if I manage to find one, the most probably thing is that the front it's smashed...

Other completely different thing are the XJ... You can find almost everything for them and they were around enough time to find a few wrecked ones..
