Thanks for the tips.
I can almost guarantee I'll screw it up the first couple times, but hopefully with your advice I'll be able to get out of the mess I create.

Once I'm in one of these settings do I have to do anything special to get back to 2WD so I can get back home?

Just the reverse of what you did to get it in. The only thing that can be tricky is 4lo. Just remember to slow down to 2-3mph, stay rolling at that speed, and put the ****** in neutral while you're going in or out of 4lo.

And make sure you dont actually rev it in neutral and then try to put it into 4LO. I've done that once and will never do it again. I apologized to it for days.

ohhhh I bet that was a pleasant sound... :-#

Hello,
About 3 weeks ago I took delivery of my '06 Liberty Sport 4WD and to be honest I couldn't be happier. As a brand new driver (age 16) it's nice to know I have a safe vehicle to get to and from school, work, etc. However, the best thing about my new Liberty is its capability. Last week we got hammered with an ice storm, but it was no problem for my Jeep. Just to test things out, I put it in 4LO 1st gear and watched it literally crawl up my steep, ice covered driveway no sweat. Overall I couldn't be a happier owner!

P.S. This forum rocks!!!!!! \:D/

That's good to hear. Out here in Oregon it seems like an excellent choice. So many people just drive to work on the weekdays, but when the weekend hits you can go hit the slopes, the forest roads, logging roads, fishing holes or whatever. Maybe it'll make the drive to work better knowing when the weekend hits I'll be able to go to new places where my old truck just wouldn't go. Bad thing is it's only Tuesday !!!!!

Welcome to the site and congrats on the Jeep!!

Have fun enjoying your new vehicle. You will learn the do's and dont's in no time. Do not be afraid to experiment. These things are pretty tough, unless you roll out of a mud pit and almost hit your friends Liberty because your tires continue to slide through the mud while slamming on the brakes. But then again nothing was hurt and a lesson was learned!
