I've been watching the threads about overheating when wheeling, and since I've been taking my Libby off-road far more this year than in the past (new lift and tires make it safer/easier now) and I also tow a boat I've really wanted to get the HD cooling kit.

Found it! The assembly also fits a '99-'03 Grand Cherokee 4.0L Got a manufacturer's closeout email from RockAuto.com and one of the items listed was an HD shroud & fan. By the time I clicked on it the parts were gone - but their new stock was now available.

So my plan is to install the shroud and fan pictured below along with a mechanical fan and clutch, plumb the transmission cooling lines into the in-rad ****** cooler and be set up as though the Jeep came from the factory with the HD cooling system.

Thanks Ryan for your ideas - you had a post in a recent thread (that I can't find at the moment) in which you said your overheating trans issues are over when wheeling after putting the mechanical fan and clutch in your HD shroud system (along with already having the ****** lines in the rad cooler.)

I'll let you know how it works. Pics:

So what's the difference between this fan and the one that is installed in my KJ (2004 KJ Sport)? Is there no difference? Is it just the fact that not all KJs come with the fan in the front? Or is this one just more heavy-duty?

The shroud is the main difference.
It is deeper so it surrounds the mechanical fan which allows more air to be pulled through the radiator matrix.
As far as the electric fan, I'm not really sure if it's any different and if it pulls more CFM than the electric fan in a non trailer tow package equipped Liberty.

Any KJ with the towing package was supposed to come with TWO fans, one mechanical (clutch) the other electric. The electric fan came on ALL models, regardless of tow package or not...

You basically just bought a paperweight. It won't work... well, at least not PROPERLY, even if you get it to fit, somehow.

He said he planned on getting the mechanical fan on top of this as well.

Crap!!!

Troy, you're right. It doesn't fit :pp:

Shipping it back on Monday and then I'll see if I can find the shroud using the part # you put in your post.

Marlan, I already have the Hayden viscous clutch and the 11-blade mechanical fan is on order. So I'll end up with two fans - one electric one mechanical - just as you said.

There is good news though: I got the in-rad cooler plumbed in today so I'm part way there... :emotions34:

Thanks Porkchop - I'll see what I can find. I've got the clutch and know where to get the mechanical fan. It's that shroud & electric fan that's tough to find. I'll let you know what I find.

Can you tell us (me) what is involved in the in-radiator cooler? I still don't get it cause I'm just a little slow I guess. How is it stock and what do you do to add plumbing into the in-radiator cooler? I see you have the 42 so it should be the same as mine right or did you get an 02 radiator that is different?

Hope you get the right stuff now. Let us know your cost!!
