After I lifted my jeep I noticed my engine skid and gas tank skid seemed to be much more visible. They of course have always been nasty and starting to look kind of grungy. As a result I decided to paint them! While taking them off I also decided to paint my rock rails and roof rails to match. I went with Rustoleum Oil Based paint "Aluminum" in color. I sanded them all down with some 60 grit then resanded them with 100 grit. Except the rails I continued with 220 grit on them since the metal is thinner. I then hung everything in my homemade paint booth in my shop and used my spray gun to apply the paint. I did 5 decently thick and and even coats on everything and once cured it turned out very well I thought! Here are some before during and after pics!

After taking the rock rails off I actually decided I liked it better with out them! It made it look higher with more distance under the rocker pannel. So I think I may be selling my factory Mopar rock rails if anyone is interested! They're freshly painted and had no rust before painting! They just looked kind of dingy. I don't have any pics of them freshly painted because I never installed them so they're still hanging in my shop.

Also you can see here that I painted my rear axle with some Rustoleum Oil Base Gloss Black to give it a littlebit better look!

Lookin good dude!

I have my rails off now to touch up some spots that rusted through the bed liner near the drain hole. My roof rails are still in perfect shape after about 1.5 yrs.

P.S. Flat hoods RULE!

My roof rails get a lot of wear and tear from taking my basket rack and cross bars off and on all the time.

P.S. My flat hood dings like a soda can and it ****** me off lol

So they are more for show then Eh?

Yeah they are the ones mainly just for looks, they're kind of a set of one time use lol! I've seen a couple guys on here smash into a rock or something and it basically destroy their rock rail but luckily prevented any damage to the rocker panel. If you're interested Ry I'd cut you a deal lol shipping and customs may kill you though...

Ya ... they're not "just for show' ... they're disposable :happy175:

mine are laying on the garage floor at the moment ... protecting the concrete from stray boulders.

P.S. stop throwing stuff at your hood Wes :D
