So the consensus is to get new tires ASAP.

I use my 2005 KJ (automatic) to:

m/f day: go a few miles to the metro. Take metro to the my cube where I'll spend the rest of my days until I retire.

m/f night: take jeep out on errands/gym at night.

Sat-Sun: during the winter same as m/f but in the Spring/Summer/Fall it's off to the beach/ Chesapeake Bay dog parks every weekend. Maybe Shenandoah valley kind of stuff.

So....what tires should I get?

I's say something like a Toyo Open Country should do well for you. I like the Grabbers that I have, but they are a little noisy and more aggressive than some others. In retrospect, I probably did a little overkill with them - I am happy with them, but I probably don't really need something like these.

Look in the tires forum above, check out tirerack.com and read the reviews.

Tire Rack is too spendy.

I like my Firestone Destionations A/T, check them out on TireRack. Very affordable, great tire.

Other recommendations:
Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos
BFG A/T KO
Yoko Geolander A/T-S

I think TireRack is too spendy. For about $550 I can get 4 Destination M/T's shipped from Onlinetires.com. Same tires cost $620 shipped from TireRack.

Firestone Destination ATs do a great job, good price, I ran the 245-70X16s for almost 40000 miles and still had good tread left, good size to go to unlifted as well. Running the Kumho KL78s now and they do good in all sorts of weather as well, more noise than the Destinations but they have more open tread area
I think when I got the destinations for 4 it was about $420/$425 and for the 4 255-70X16s it was about the same

I have the Dunlop RVXT's and they've been excellent for me in all conditions. They really seem to like the sand that I trail on too. Check out their stats on tirerack.com, they're only about 2 lbs heavier than the stockers.
