Front brakes and rotors

Had mine replaced today, at the dealer, 420 bananas. Seems like a lot. I've got 45, 700 miles on my 2007, don't know if they were ever done before. how bad did I get taken? thanks

Not bad at all. Sounds about right for a standard brake job. Had you done the work yourself, you could have put pretty high-end brake equipment on for $420. Speaking as a non-super mechanic, front brakes are something that are pretty easy to do.

I would expect around $400 for a shop to do my brakes for me.

I do my own brakes. Front are super easy to do. Turn the rotors for 25 a pcs and the pads are about 50-75 plus about an hour of work. At a dealer that is about right though. . If you don't feel comfortable doing your own then that price isn't too bad. Plus it varies from area. I am in Vegas.

My gosh, I cant imagine having to spend that much on brakes. You can get new rotors for $30 a pop and the top end pads for $80 at napa. It literally takes an hour to change them unless the rotors are rusted on.

Yeah but many do not have the time,tools,or know-how to do brakes properly.Then again many who do there own do not have the proper know-how to do brakes properly.

$30 for a rotor is the super cheap "made in china" special that starts out at discard spec.$400 for rotors,pads,and labor at a shop is pretty standard for good parts.

Yeah, but you know how to change them and they are easy but if you don't know how about $400 is a shop rate, more for the rear since there is an extra set of e-brake shoes back there.

I would have no clue how to do it, so thanks for the replies. The Port jeff jeep dealer on LI seems to run a pretty good shop, with good service, so thats my go to. But having no knowledge, I am at there mercy, so I appreciate you guys here keeping them honest!

I provided Rotors and Ceramic Disk Pads ($150 from AutoZone) then paid local Jeep Dealer $85 to install. Thankfully my dealer will install non OEM parts that I provide.

If they installed the Mopar Value Line brake pads you got took to the cleaners. Those are about the lowest quality pads out there. Front wheels will be black from brake dust as long as they are on the KJ.

Why bother even talking about turning the rotors. Just buy new ones.
Then you are good to go for many miles, with worrying about thin, heat, and warp.
Just did my rear using Napa Ultra Premium Rotors & Adaptive one pads.

Will do the same on front when needed, and get rid of Dealer OEM stuff.

I paid about $320 in parts for NAPA Ultra Premium rotors and Adaptive One pads front and rear and did the work myself.

For just the fronts? I think people are thinking this is $420 for a complete job. I dunno.

the dealer just told me i needed pads and turn the rotors( if they were able to) and its 199.. for the rotors and pads it was 299. thats installed.
