Front Driveshaft Removal

So I found a torn rear boot of my driveshaft and I have a sound of something like a bad bearing which may be or not be the driveshaft but it is alright to remove the front driveshaft and drive around a for a few weeks correct?
I emailed ericautoparts but he is out of stock of the length I need.
Also its just the 8mm bolts holding it in correct? No special tricks to getting it out?

I've seen a few posts where people were talking about a u-joint conversion but it causes vibrations. I searched but couldn't find much about it are there any posts about it on here?

You'll be fine pulling the driveshaft for a while, just don't try to engage 4x4 without the front driveshaft. 8mm bolts on both ends; take the end closest to the transfer case out first, slide the shaft over the transfer case and twords the back of the jeep to disengage the diff end of the driveshaft then it should just come out.

Changing the front drive shaft was the first repair I personally did on my jeep. Very Easy (and I am not a car mechanic at all) nothing to move out of the way. Just remove those small bolts on each side of the shaft and compress together as Warren said. A new shaft cost me $200, I didn't shop around too much, but I would buy new, not off of a wreck.

The only tip I would offer is once you get the bolts out of both the front and rear, pull the rear part of the driveline forward, push it up over the yoke on the t-case, then pull the front out.

I have done several of these, and if you try to pull the front of the driveline out first, it is pretty hard to get the driveline out of the yoke on the front diff.

I apologize if it is hard to understand what I'm getting at. It would be easier to show you than to sit here and explain it.

I will have to get with my Dad, he is retired and loves searching the internet for deals. I know it was a place in NJ that buys overstocked items from dealerships, full warranties..I will post it when I find out.

Well, does it or doesn't it? If they've made these for Jeep liberty's, wouldn't they know? Then this:

When you are ready to order we need to have a flange to flange measurement.

Again, if they've made these for Liberty's, wouldn't they already know?

Word of advice $130 front shaft lasted like 3-4 months before it started shaking my jeep to death at speeds over 50 mph ...


I found American CV online and got a heavy duty one for $200 - they also sell on eBay too and it’s a beast. No more vibes

I was going to go with the CV rebuild kits but I'm on my second OEM shaft now (original replaced at 110K - 10K after lift) and was thinking this bad boy might last longer

Call up Adam's for a custom built shaft if you want a HD reliable shaft. This will be over kill for most people.

As long as you don't mind vibrations.

The front diff and t-case are not lined up correctly for any non-CV(meaning actual CV joints,not referring to Double Cardon CV's) so you will get vibs no matter what unless you use the OEM style CV joint driveshaft.

They claim to have it balanced, and i kinda like the idea of what they built if i can get it with grease nipple on the joints, thoughts?

Thanks. I'm getting pulsing vibrations over 55 mph now so I don't want it worse. I'm going to go with the rebuild kit and see how that turns out.
