I recently remove the front drive shaft to change the CV on the TC end. When I removed the drive shaft from the front diff yoke there was maybe 1-2 tbsp. diff fluid that came out of the yoke. I have been told this is normal but how/why? So now it almost seem like it is leaking inside that yoke and fluid is spinning out the back side of the yoke on the seem line between the yoke and the Cv joint. Not sure tho if its diff fluid or just the WD-40 I hit it with to break the rust bond when removing the DS. Is it possible all that WD-40 was absorbed by the yoke and is spinning out when I drive. Or is it possible that my seal is leaking but only allowing oil to escape inside the yoke? The collar and the end of the yoke that enters the the front diff is totally dry with no sign of leakage. In the picture the yoke looks wet but that is just from the WD-40. It seem to be coming out from where the fat yellow stripe enters the yoke. The

If that's the case then pull the Driveshaft out again. Pull the pinnion nut off apply some RTV and tighten to specs

If I am getting diff fluid inside the yoke would this be do to a bad pinion seal or is it just coming up the threads ?

have to reset the preload and everything if you do that
I can't see where it would be coming up the threads

I agree with Tom - seems there would be significant problems with the diff if the fluid was flowing into the yoke. I think that fluid is seeping from the CV joint itself - but until the boot rips I'd just leave it be.

Ya like I say I did hit it hard with WD-40 so maybe it got into / under the cap of the cv and is getting spun out??

I've seen it a lot but not only jeep. A lot of old dana rears. They used to put a rubber star washer under the pinnion nuts to try to stop it.

I didn’t want to start a new thread / searching for the answer took me here.
Maybe I can add to tbis.
Removed the front drive shaft on the 03 and the bolts came out wet.
Removed the shaft the front yoke was wet with diff oil.
My 02 with x2 the mileage was bone dry.

Never taking this apart befor , all I see inside the woke is the nut.

is this little bit of oil normal / common?
If not , what causes this and how to fix Or should I even bother ?

I had a little bit come out from there when I did my driveshaft at like 110k. At 200k now with no issues.
I thought if you had a pinion seal leak it'd come from outside where the driveshaft bolts up.

Wow. Late night posting from my phone / typos all over.

Yea same thoughts here. I thought it would
Leak outside.

My source for a good front drifeshaft informed no more units are available.

Great. Last time it took me 3 - all of which vibrated the jeep over 55mph until I found one that worked out.
