I typically use a fuel injector cleaner at every oil change if I think about it. Probably every other since I forget.

Not sure if Ill ever change the fuel filter.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
I believe for '04+ they removed the actual fuel filter(not 100% sure),I know '02's have one since I have replaced mine twice(every 30k).They call it a lifetime filter but I don't buy it since both times the filter I removed of of mine was pretty nasty inside,a real pain to replace also and not cheap.

As far cleaners you should get a induction cleaning done at least once a year, does wonders and is 3 step process. You may need new plugs also after this type of cleaning since it cleans so well it almost always fouls the plugs.Do not do a induction cleaning or add injector cleaner more then 1 a year, maybe twice but that is pushing it, due to they can ruin your cats. They say they are cat safe but to much and to often will plug the cats.

So theres not a filter at all? That seems like an awfully insane thing to do with fuel injectors.

Our zj simply has an inline filter bolted to the frame rail. Takes a total of 10min to change out. Dont understand why they cant still do that?

Can't make money off of you that way.The '98 ZJ's had no filters(as did most of the later year XJ's) just a sock(mesh screen) on the end of the fuel pickup tube.

Well a few weeks ago I went to the dealership to see how much a new fuel filter would cost me. Well I got a cost of 138 and some change w/o tax. I'm not a big fan of the cleaners in the tank. You have to figure what is going to catch everything after the fuel filter. It's all going to be driven right up to your injectors. The only injector cleaner I would use is the top end cleaner just for the injectors that get screwed on the fuel rail. That’s like running biodiesel. It is a cleaner and if you have not been running it on a normal basic it will end up cleaning the fuel system. It has been known to clog up fuel filters on semi trucks after a few fill ups.
