Hey i was just wonering if anyone has a Garmin Nuvi 350. I"ve read good things about it on CNet but i wanted to hear what some real people had to say. If you have any recommendations of other Portable GPS units suggest those as well Thanks

Garmin makes great products. I have the StreetPilot c530 and mount it on the dash instead of the windshield...

Can you disconnect the cable and take it with you as a portable unit? It looks nice on the dash. What about running the cable behind the dash?

My Garmin is not permanetly mounted. I mount it to the dash using the plastic disk and suction cup provided. When not in use, I remove the entire unit and cord from the vehicle. The same can be done with the Garmin Nuvi 350.

I suppose you can hide the cord behind the dash, but I haven't tried it since I also use it in my TJ (see last pic)....

I thought about mounting my Garmin on the dash with the plastic disc, but I was deterred because doing so would keep me from opening the top of the dash. Upgrading the tweeters is on my KJ wish list, so I don't want to block access to the dash.

I've also thought about running the Garmin cord through the dash, but I've been reluctant to try it. I would be interested to hear if anyone has done it. I've also wondered why no car manufacturer has thought to put an adapter plug on top of the dash.

There is no standard plug that goes into the many different GPS models, even ones made by the same manufacturer. I've owned the Garmin i5, c330 and c530... all had different plugs.

Similar models by Garmin...

Old school... yes and no.

It's a popular model with truckers. It's been around for many years in one form or another. Mine is a Cobra 29 LTD Classic w/o the weather channel. I've had it for about five years now. It's been peaked and tuned and has a reverb feature installed. It makes for a rugged trail radio if you have somewhere to mount it. It fits perfectly on a TJ dash. Some folks mount it on the side of their center console.

Here is the latest incarnation...

How do you like that i5 that you had?
I like it, because it's small and compact and fits in my Crossfire and Civic very well.

The i5 has the same map program and features as the larger Garmin units, so there is no issue there. The down side is, a small screen, but of course you're watching the road and not the screen... the voice prompts are what really gets you there. Also it uses a scroll wheel, not a touch screen. I'd recommend it, they were over $500.00 or so when they came out in Oct 2005, now you can pick one up for under $300.00.

I like the Garmin c530 in the pic's you posted, AZKJ. I also like the fact that you can easily switch it between vehicles. To me, that would be better than having a built in one. I can then switch it between the car and the Jeep.

Nice dash in the crossfire.
