Got my Basslink mounted...

I've had this thing since Christmas and haven't properly mounted it yet until today. I followed Bennett's inspiration and mounted it to a carpet board, but I then secured the carpet board to the anchors on the floor with zip ties.

Looks great! Is that a 10" or 12" sub?

Doesnt seem to take up much space at all. I hardly have any in mine. ](*,)

How does it sound?

Have any pics of the entire trunk area with the sub?

It's actually two 10inch subs mounted back to back in that enclosure. One is powered (200w) and the other is a "passive radiator". It sounds absolutely amazing for its size. You can't really hear it too good outside the Jeep, but inside it's really really good....highly recommended. My wife only paid $200 for it from Crutchfield (on sale at the time).

It looks neat, for some reason I thought they were only mounted horizontally.

As for choice, I am in the same situation, and want a powerful woofer, I was considering bazooka. How did you run the cables, and how about the power? Can you post a few pictures of your battery & ground connections? I just need someone to get me going with this thing. So more $$ can fly out of my wallet.

Well, I don't have any pics of the connections yet, but I'll get some tomorrow hopefully. I ran the power wire (10 ga.) from the battery, through the firewall, up the A-pillar, and along the top of the doors underneath the weatherstripping, then down to the basslink. The ground (also 10 ga.), I took out one of the bolts holding the back seat down, hooked the ground to that bolt and then fastened the bolt back down.
As for the signal, you can use the speaker level inputs that come with it if you have your factory radio still, but I used RCA connections from the back of the HU, and underneath the doors to the basslink. You also have to run a remote wire from the HU to the basslink. So basically, if you get a typical amp kit (got mine from wal-mart for $17) it should have everything you need in it already.
I don't take credit for any of my ideas for running the wires, I had alot of help from searching this forum. I actually messed it up when I tried to run the power wire through the firewall. I didn't know about the hole that was already there and I tried to push it up through the main gasket in the firewall...that didn't work! It pushed that gasket completely out and I couldn't get it back in so I had to go and pay someone to fix it. Oops!

You know what, I should get rid of my cargo net, and get a duffle bag you. Maybe one that's a bit larger. You have no idea how much junk I have there... This looks neat and nice.

Yeah, that's where I got the idea. I saw yours on here somewhere and that got me thinkin'. I just wanted it to be mounted to the floor somehow and not just free standing.....mainly because I'm paranoid it would fall over. 8-[

The only problem I ran into with the carpet board is this.....I have one of those cargo covers that came with the Jeep, and it just barely hits the top of the basslink. It doesn't hit real bad, but it's enough to make the cover vibrate when you crank it. I put some little pieces of velcro on the underside of the bar to help and hopefully that'll do the trick. \/

I really miss all my trunk space. I think I have more than I did before the sub since I made that shelf though.

That's really not that bad though, especially with that shelf. If you can take that thing out pretty easily, then it wouldn't be all that bad if you needed the extra space. I'm sure it sounds better than mine though, so there is some justification there! \/

Thanks a lot for the info, I saw the exact same amp installation kit at walmart last week but was not sure if it would be good since the box looked cheap and I think I saw a typo on the paper somewhere.. They were selling similar setups at circuit city for $50.

Yeah I was a little unsure myself. I had one picked out at best buy for $42 that I was gonna get. But they basically had the same thing in them, so I got the cheaper one. If it makes any difference, the one that Crutchfield sent with it was the same exact kit just in difference packaging. My wife ordered it for me for x-mas and didn't know that I had already bought the kit at walmart, so we sent the Crutchfield one back.

I also got my RCA and Power cables at walmart.

I ended up getting the 4-gauge wire though. It came with a 100amp fuse which I thought was WAY to high. I found an 80amp fuse at a local car audio place which is still alittle high for my setup, but it should do. I bought all new ends and ended up only using the wire, fuse holder, and RCA cables from the walmart kit. I also soldiered all my ring terminals onto the wire. Makes for a really good connection that should never come loose.
