My 2006 2WD limited is having brake issues. In normal routine braking they're fine, but when I have to push the brake a little harder (aka a surprised halt) there is a grinding. I don't hear the grinding but I can feel it in my foot. Like something is not catching. I don't know much about vehicles, but any help would be great. My Liberty was used with 25k on it, so I don't know the history. Just wanted to get some advance before I head to the shop with my little knowledge and get ripped off.

Yea, the ABS could very well be what your feeling. Ive never had the stock tires lock up on dry blacktop, but it wouldnt surprise me if they did or slipped just enough to make the ABS kick in.

With 25k the brake pads should be just fine. Mine still look like new at 30k but dont as Marlon how his are doing. :)

Does it feel like a vibration? or a quick down/up type feeling? If so, it's most likely ABS breaks. If you never had them before, it can be a shocker the first time like something is wrong.

Thanks for the welcome :) It does feel like a vibration and an up and down motion. I guess it's just the ABS. My vehicle before this one was a '94 Isuzu rodeo, I'm sure that one didn't have ABS, whatever ABS is :) I'll do some research so it won't scare me as bad next time. I'm getting new tires soon, I'll get whoever does that to check the brake pads just in case. I do drive like a maniac sometimes.. so I wouldn't be surprised if the pads are a lil worn. It has 46K now too, I probably should have mentioned that. How long do stock brakes pads last?

ABS - Anti-lock Braking System. I am 110% sure that's what it is if you're feeling up and down motion, and it's felt in the pedal, and only in HARD braking.

You know how in older cars you'd pump your brakes in the snow to not slide? ABS does that for you - hold your foot steady on the brake.

Some love it, some hate it. Check a recent thread HERE. I think it has it's benefits and setbacks, and personally, I'll drive either without complaint - ABS or non-ABS. Doesn't matter much to me.

Anti-lock Braking System: A system designed to keep your wheels from locking and sliding during braking, thereby improving vehicle control. It senses the speed of each wheel and controls braking pressure to them by opening and closing valves on the brake lines. This minimizes tire sliding during braking and still allows you to stop in the smallest space possible. The vibration you feel is the valves opening and closing rapidly to keep your tires from sliding.

Hope this helps!

And, per Seven's definition and my lengthy post in the other thread....

ABS gives MORE CONTROL. Sometimes it helps to stop faster, many conditions you stop SLOWER. ABS does not equal "I can tailgate like a ****".

Stock brakes should last anywhere from 40-60k depending how you drive, if you tow, and the type of terrain that is in your area.

Okay, now I understand ABS. I think it has kicked it on me 3 or 4 times. I'm just going to have to go easier on the brakes, I'm a last minute brake person. Since I'm between 40 and 60k, I'll go ahead and get those checked out! Thanks!
