GY Wrangler M/TR with Kevlar vs. GY Wrangler DuraTrac

Howdy,

I have a 2004 KJ Gasser with Frankenlift II Premium. I currently have Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's, which I love, but I would like a tire that was a little more agreesive as I live in CO and like to go off-roading. I'm looking at several options from Goodyear (per above). Does anyone have any comments on these Goodyear's?

One of my main concerns is tread life and traction on snow. I live in the mountains and commute to work up and down the pass in the winter. I cannot afford $1000-$1500 every year and a half. Please help....

I have the old style goodyear mtrs and wet traction isn't as good as a normal street tire but it isn't terrible (I have no qualms with my wife driving it in any weather).
I spent a long weekend in tahoe a couple weeks ago and they were great in the snow. I only needed to put her in 4wd once to get out of an icy driveway that was inclined.
Tread life doesn't seem to be that good so far but I have a set of street tires I run during the summer to help keep the goodyears lasting as long as possible.

Not much help, but those are my observations so far. Oh, and they are quite loud on the road.

Our Rig has the New Goodyear M/T R Kevlar tires.
They are absolutely excellent tires in the wet, dry,
mud, and are really good in the snow as well.
They just don't have long tread wear life, and are
not inexpensive...
Despite the tread wear, I plan on buying a second set
within the next couple of weeks.
I'll be keeping the set that is being replaced and using
the two "best" ones out of the four, for our tent trailer.
I cannot comment personally on the Dura Tracs, but from
what I've read about them in tire tests from 4X4 magazine
tests and online, they seem to be a really good "A/T tire.

Can't comment on the mt/r but I put a set of dura tracs on my wifes wrangler. We use it in colorado as well and it has done outstanding on the trails and in the snow. It is severe weather rated with the mountain peak and snowflake. They have been wearing really well. They are advertised as having outer lugs of a mud tire with all terrain inner tread, whatever that means ,lol. Buy them you will be happy. Oh by the way they are pretty quiet also.

I put my Dura Tracs on a few months back and love them. They are quite like a A/T and they do real well in the mud and seem to be wearing good.

First set only lasted me 23000 miles. My own fault for not rotating them properly and F:favorites68:ing around with the tire pressure...
I should ad that the tires were still quite usable when I replaced them.

Over 26,000 on the Duratracs wearing great, no problems
Had the old style MTRs on for a while, then BFG ATs
The Duratracs beat them both, just way better overall

I am sitting at 55k miles on my atko's and they have another...15k on them roughly. Big chunks missing but still good. Looking at the MTR Kevlar but shops here say they only last about 25k.

Duratracs are great for people who are fine with 2nd best.... and that's ok. For the serious enthusiast, the MT/R is the only way to go. I ran my first set over 50k miles before replacing them with the Kevlars I have now. 235/85R16 is the gangster size.

Those would be the non-direct Goodyear shops.

Big difference between the Duratrac or bfg AT as they are a all terrian tire made with harder rubber.The MT/R's are offroad specific tires made out of softer rubber and naturally will not last as long but perform 100 times better then any AT tire will offroad.

I'll be very happy with 25k out of my 35" Kevlars.

Kicking an old thread as it seems to be the most topic relevant.

Are the E load rated duratracs what to buy? There are C and E in the 245 75 16 market but only E's in the 245 70 17's. Is the 33 psi range on stock tires too low for your standard highway trips / Daily driving on E load tires or is ~double KJ standard tire pressure what people are doing?

Are they loud or not? They look like they should be compared to stock. I certainly don't expect them to be quiet...er.

Goodyear also has this BS quiet ride number and ranks the Duratracs one better then the mtr which, for lack of better description just howl. Doesn't really jive with the tirerack average rating for noise comfort. I assume its because people can't hear them over the sound of how awesome they are as from what i've seen here, there and Google, is nothing but love for it.

I'm sure I can't go wrong with either choice as its far and above those HP's I have stock.

Co workers have Mickey MTZ's on a half ton and new MT-R's on a FJ and its basically a dull roar on the highway and not what i'm looking for despite being happy with what i've seen on both.

Also have silent armors on a F250 diesel at work but attempting to hear those tires is a pointless exercise.

looking for something I can live with for daily driving. IE if I can't hear my gf in the vehicle, I'll be hearing about it out of the vehicle. And Nobody wants to rate that on a scale of 1 to 10 and wonder what 5 or 6 means.

pretty much wrote MTR's off the list in same breath as most other MT designated tires and am happy without the serious enthusiast club. Still in the buying skids and bag my chrome clad factory rims club.

More or less wondering about their scoring chart and trying to make sense of it. Be way easier to ride in a KJ with duratracs and avoid this mess as i'd have the answer in 5 min. Priced them at 295 a tire in town plus rebate so i feel like being picky.

Basically answered my questions short of what people are running for tirepressure on the E models.

This chrome is killing me, I got to find some 16's and buy the c load 245 75 16s.

The Duratrac's do really well off road.
A friend of ours has a set of 33's on his Cherokee and his mom also
has a set of 33's on her Cherokee.
They get "a little slippery" in some situations, but all in all a really great
tire.
If it wasn't for the fact that we can get the M/T R's for the same price,
we would of gone for the Duratracs

Oh, and just so you know?
They get noisy as well when they start to wear.
