I found this site on google and it has been a great help. I have identified what I am working with and just have a few questions.

Girlfriend's 2003 Jeep liberty with indash cd changer and infinity premium system.

Replacing the head unit with a clarion vz409
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OQ6NZ0/ref=ox_ya_oh_product

All 4 door speakers are blown/sound bad so they need to replaced. Suggestion are appreciated. I don't know if I should get some 2 or 3 way in all the doors?

I don't know much about car audio and am not looking for an expert system, just something that sounds decent.

Specific questions-

Do I need an amp?

Can I get a wiring harness that has the rca outputs and keep the little amps that are on the infinity speakers?

Like this

http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Radio-amp-W...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item517f9c0451

How do you wire the front speakers that have the plugs with lots of wires going in but only two to the speakers?

Thanks in advance mj.gif

Welcome.
You really don't need to salvage the existing infinity amps, I recommend getting a 4 channel amp like this Alpine MRP-F300 and set of four two-ways or components to replace the front speakers. Your last question of how to wire the front speakers, there is a chart by "timmer" http://jeepkj.com/forum/showpost.php?p=370750&postcount=5

You will need this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120706502/Receiver-Wire-Harness.html?search=chrysler+harness&ssi=0 this will connect to the harness on the jeep, the other end will be crimped to proper connections on the clarion's harness.

Crutchfield seems to be out of stock, so I think I am going to order this one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380161833940&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

That place also sells the dash trim kit and the factory antenna adapter.

So is a amplifier necessary? I was hoping the h/u would power it. If I have to get an amp, then I have to get an amp.

So four two way speakers to replace the doors?

Or a set of two ways for the back and a set of components for the front. Utilizing the factory door location and a plumbing strap adapter for the tweeter.

Getting a 4 channel amp isnt a must but of course it will sound better. It can be quite a bit of wiring and such so if youre not comfortable with that then you can try just hooking up the speakers and see how you like it.

For the wiring, you will need to use that link hyedipin posted. Cut and splice the wires in the front door so you wont need to run all new wiring to the rear door speakers. If you like you can just not use the tweeters in the dash.

Hmm, just looking at the deck,
You must be registered for see images attach
It has bunch of outputs.

This deck is 40Watt x 4 channel which is probably peak, because in the specs it says 18W×4 RMS [4Ω@14.4V ≤1% THD+N], it will work, but to get the best out of your new speakers, whatever you end up buying, I would go with an amp.

Crutchfield may be out of stock when sold separately, but I would just buy http://www.crutchfield.com/p_020VZ409/Clarion-VZ409.html?tp=20217 this from them, it would come with everything you need at just $10 more than Amazon. Plus they will tell you exactly where every wire should be connected on the jeep's harness.

Plumbing strap adapter by jeepjeepster, or this @ ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/Speaker-or-Twee...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4a9d68594f because not all tweeters may have the little screws underneath to secure it to the plumbing strap. :) I was really surprised that his tweeters had those screws on the bottom.

Thanks guys.

I added it in the basket at crutchfield and it still says the adapter is not in stock.

I already have the H/U, it was a Christmas present for her, if they had the adapter in stock, I might try and return it and reorder from crutchfield. I will call crutchfield tomorrow and see what is up with them.

I was just going to order some speakers and put them in while everything is apart.

She was happy with the stock unit and speakers, they all just quit working.
In my truck, there would be amplifiers and subs involved. :D

Any tips on how to bypass the built in security the head unit has. It has a adapter that clips on to the parking brake light that comes on when it is engaged. Without a current in that cord, the video screen wont work. We don't want to watch the video and drive, but my girlfriend would like to watch videos when I drive.

Can't you just clip it on any other light's wire and keep that light on whenever you want video screen on?

Figure out if that wire is a ground or a positive feed. Thats just there to make sure you have the parking brake pulled before watching movies. If its a ground then ground it and if its a positive feed just splice it into the switched 12volt when you wire the HU in.

I know on my panasonic monitor i had in my XJ i just grounded it, its usually a ground it usually suppose to be run to the parking brake but they must know no one does that cause my wire wasn't even close to running that far and already had the ring connector :D
