Headed to the U-Pull yard, anything I shouldn't leave without?

I'm headed to the junkyard today to grab a few bits and pieces for my '03 Rocky Mountain Edition. My inner tailgate panel is scratched, I'm missing the passenger front kickplate off the rocker panel, and there's a trim piece gone from the cup holder.

I think I might grab some blue exterior door trim inserts to see how they look on the black body, and some bits for an aftermarket stereo install.

Anything else I should grab while I'm there? This is my first Liberty -- Any particularly expensive relays/control modules or common wear pieces I should be after? This place is a good hour away, so I'll grab as much as I can.

Thanks!

Tow hooks , wheel spacers , power lock assemblies, and the silver interior bezels are on my list

So far I found 1.5" aluminum spacers and lock assemblies

your probably right on the clevis, was thinking bout my 07 where the clevis has a smaller bolt and the rear wouldn't work.

Wooo! Light Bar!

It rained yesterday, so I went today --They had four Libertys, one limited with leather, and three sports. The website says they've been there since early August, but they were surprisingly intact.

I ended up grabbing those silver bezels for the radio surround and the shifter -- They look great, thanks for the tip!

Mine already had the leather seats added, but the heat was never hooked up... I was able to get the missing connectors at least, and I know I saw a how-to thread somewhere in here to wire them up.

I was just planning to look and maybe grab trim and interior parts today, so I didn't bring all my tools. But... Since someone had already taken one of the front doors off, it was my chance to get an easy door hinge... Took me almost an hour anyways, since all I had was my stubby wrenches and no socket set.

I even got a stock lightbar for $24! It's a little beat up and missing half the screws that hold it together, but it's got four beautiful Hella lights in there and all the wiring & connectors. Score!

What else... I grabbed an OTIS computer for $5, but I forgot to get the temp module up front. A great excuse for another trip back. I'm not 100% sure I wanna start splicing into important wires, but I couldn't say no for the price.

My Selec-Trac transfer case indicator position switch is a bit flakey -- It was owned by a lady who never had it out of 2wd, so it's really never been used.
I read:
http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/f202/how-change-transfer-case-position-switch-44188/
Does anyone know if the switch the same across all transfer cases, or if they can be somehow cleaned and fixed?

Thanks for all the help, this place rocks. :)

It's the same switch but I'm not sure if I'd bother with a used one. New ones are $60 or so.

Back Again!

I couldn't stay away... I came back with some more tools to grab the door hinge that I couldn't get last time, and it's a good thing I did -- Two new Libertys, an '02 and an '04 had shown up. I was trying to find back glass lift supports with no luck, until the yard guy dropped a fresh Liberty 30 feet away from me. =)

One of them had a semi decent set of five 16" alloy wheels and a brand new Goodyear spare, but the previous owner had put on wheel locks... They weren't budging even with my biggest vice grips and the BFH.

I haven't even had time to look at installing the OTIS overhead computer that I got last time, but today I grabbed the fancier EVIC and the temp module. It's from an '04, so I'll report back about whether the outdoor temperature sensor works in my '03.

My tailgate door panel was scratched and half the clips were broken by the previous owner, and I was able to find one in absolutely perfect condition today.

One of the new ones had an auto-starter in it that someone had pulled halfway out. Attached to that was a little black box with a hinge on it -- I opened it up, and there was an uncut Jeep sentry key surrounded by a wire coil. I'm not 100% sure how these things work, but if I can re-use it, I will! Mine only came with one key, but it's got an auto-starter too. Here's hoping I've got an extra key in a box up inside my dash so I can program my own.

She's going to be brand new inside by the time I'm done, but it feels somehow criminal... Like going back to the same pet store twice, seeing the same puppy again, and then shamelessly using it for parts. :sawzall: Those big sad Jeep eyes stare at you all the way back to the parking lot.

Hammer on a 1/2 drive socket tight on the security lug and pound the lug out with the 3/8 drive after its off the wheel. Wouldn't want to do 20 of them but 5 would be ok. how bad you want it.

You inspired me to go to my local yard. I came out with two front tow hooks, transfer case skid plate and gas tank skid plate. All for about $40.

I could not get the M bolt out for the tow hooks so I will need to go back- I ran out of time for the day. Is there a way to use a bolt from the bottom instead?

Either use the M bolt or pull the bumper cover off, not really a big deal to use other hardware as long as you use the right grade. Easy to do.

Another part I'd suggest picking up (in general) are AC vents. Had one of mine break so I gathered all the khaki colored ones I could find.

super lucky pulls all around! I cant find tow hooks, skids or the renegade light bar and I have been to a dozen salvage yards. I know I should get better aftermarket skids but its the wife's KJ so she wont do any real wheeling.

I have found some good finds, just never that elusive trifecta
