Hi to everyone! I bought a 2008 Jeep Liberty Sport on 12/2020. After a few months of using it, I started getting the "Check Engine" light with the "gas cap" description, and the "Check Tires" light. I ordered a new original gas cap from a local Chrysler Jeep dealer. I had it installed in a shop, had the tires filled up, and the warning lights turned off for a while. After driving the jeep around for a while both lights came back on again. I took it to the mechanic and they scanned it and got code P0456, they ran the smoke test for a long time and told me I needed to replace the evap purge valve, the canister, and the leak protection pump. They also told me the tires were bad and needed to be replaced. The tires I knew I would have to replace soon when I bought the jeep. So, I decided to buy the new set of tires first, and deal with the "check engine" light later. A little while later I took it in for the "check engine" light. They ran the smoke test again, and a small leak was detected but they could not pinpoint the exact location. Because the registration renewal date and emission test were coming soon, and they could not figure out the location of the small leak, they recommended I should take the jeep to an emissions specialist. I started looking around my area and found this other shop that told me they specialized in fixing cars for the emission test. They did the same things that were done by my mechanic. They went ahead and replaced the evap purge valve, the canister, and the leak detection pump. The "check engine" light was turned off, and supposedly it was fixed. I took it home and it worked great for exactly 1 month. The "check engine" light and gas cap light came on again. I took it back, he kept the car for 3 days. Ran the scan again, got code P0456, replaced the gas cap for another new original one, and ran the smoke test to see if there were any other leaks, but nothing showed up. So, he cleared the code, told me what he had replaced, told me about the tests he ran, and that he did not find the cause for the code. I only had a week and a half left to have the emission test done to be able to buy my registration renewal, but the mechanic was going on vacation that same week I had left. So, I took my jeep home and used it hoping the lights would not turn on before taking it in for the emission test. Saturday came, I started the jeep, and no lights came on. I drove it around for a while, but no lights came on, took it to the testing center, had it tested, and passed! I was able to buy my registration renewal ticket. Whew! Thanks to God one less worry! Or so I thought... A week passed with no lights. This was too good to be true. By the following week, on a Wednesday at 4:30 am, I heard someone using an electric saw outside. I got up, went to the living room, and looked out the front windows. There are 3 windows, 1st I looked through the right side window and looked straight out and saw nothing. Then, still in the same window, I looked towards the left side of that window and saw this white car parked parallel to my jeep, really close to it, facing the opposite direction. I heard a car door being closed, and by the time I ran to the left side of the living room to look out through the left side window, the car was already down the block at the stop sign, it made a left and drove away. I had a very bad feeling about this but went back to bed praying to God and hoping I was wrong about my bad feeling. The next day I went outside and started my jeep and unfortunately I was right. They had stolen both catalytic converters, the rear muffler, and both oxygen sensors. After all the problems I have been having with the "check engine" light, and now this! So, I called the mechanic and told him what happened, took the jeep in, and had that replaced, too. Another arm and a leg. After having that replaced and driving it for a while, guess what? The stupid "check engine" light came back on. This time it had code P0440 and the gas cap light again. I took it back, the mechanic asked me if he could keep the jeep for a few days to be able to check it really well. He had it for a whole week and was unable to find the problem. He says everything is new and working correctly and does not understand why I keep getting all these codes. The only thing he can think of is to take it to a Chrysler Jeep dealer because that is their expertise, fixing jeeps. Have them scan it and figure out the real problem, so they can tell me what it is, and then I can tell him so he can fix it for me. I am so sick and tired of this. If I take it to a dealer to have it scanned, that is going to cost me a pretty penny. Then, to have it fixed, too. This jeep is becoming a money eater, which I do not have. Has anybody had this same experience? Does anybody know what could be the cause of getting the "check engine" light on so often? How can this be fixed? I truly need very good advice. I will greatly appreciate every and any help you can give me, and I apologize for writing such a long story. Thank you and God bless you all.

Check the tubing attached to the solenoid. A couple of us have had holes where they pass close to the battery. My dealer missed this, by the way.

Thank you for the suggestion. I will ask my mechanic if he checked that.

I startled my dog who was sleeping when I burst out with a big "No!!!" While in a deep read of your story. I'm so sorry you had that done to you!
