I recently purchased an 02 Liberty Limited that has been in my family for about ten years. I am looking to learn about common known issues as well as any tips and tricks to make maintaining this thing easier

Welcome to the forum. That's the nice thing about KJ's they are fairly easy to work on. What maintenance items need addressing?

The steering feels like it might be a little loose, but other than that it's mostly just normal 17yr old vehicle issues: blown bulbs, dead power mirror switch, key-in chime doesn't stop when the key is removed,... Normal stuff.

It's coming up on 200k miles and I'm just trying to find out what to expect maintenance-wise

As far as the steering, check the steering rack bushings for play by observing movement, while having someone turn it 1/4 turn each way.
Also front end should be tight, check sway bar end links, get an inspection/ alignment once as year.
Rear diff should be serviced every 40k miles, transmission fluid & filters, and service the front diff & transfer case. Hoat coolant every 5 years.
Always refer to fluid specs in your owners manual for the correct products to use.
Spark plugs every 40k and using NGK as per under hood sticker.
Has the serpentine belt & tensioner assembly been replaced ?

I have no clue to be honest, my brother bought this one used when he started college about 8 years ago, then sold it to my Dad four years ago and my sister was driving it until about a month ago.

Other than being put in a ditch last spring to avoid a collision, I don't think it's ever been off-roaded.

I know my dad had the front end inspected and repaired after that, but idk what other maintenance has been done.
