help!! tire size question on 2.5 inch lifted liberty

I have an 02 prelowered liberty with a 2.5 in rustys lift
Id love to run a set of 265 75 16 on my moabs
will this work
or should I stick to a 265 70 16?

Rustys Spring or Rustys spacer lift?
Both are known to sag pretty bad after you have them on for a while, so you could probably fit the 265/75s on now, but it will sag later. 245/75/16 is the most common size for lifted liberties so you might also consider that. 265/70 is a little wider so you may rub on the pinch weld- I know I did and I have OME with a top plate and clevis lift as well. I personally would lean toward 245/75 or 265/70 just so you wont have problems in the future with rubbing. Just my 2 cents.

You're going to rub if you do any offroading with 265 75 16's. I know because a ran 245/75 16's with a 2.5" lift (with pinch weld mods and plastic cutting)and it rubbed offroad. Mild dirt roads and speed bumps you'll probably be OK with 265 70's or 245 75's - with pinch weld and plastic trimming.

I had to go to 3.75" lift to run 265 75 16's and do any offroading.

The Grabber AT2's 245 75 16's (load E) have a pretty wide track at over 8" of tread - at least mine do and they look pretty wide with 16X8's but you can run them on a 7" rim no problem.

Lifting and changing wheels and tires each have their own issues.
I know I've lifted twice to get where I'm at now.
It's a geometry game with offset, tire height and use of truck.

Spacer lift, yes stay smaller sizes like 245-75-16
no way for 265-75s and a spacer lift and sagged out springs

I have the exact set-up (I am not sure if my KJ is "pre-lowered" though) with the 265's x 75's... I also raised the front via a clevis lift which helped alot. The tires are now about 50% and do not rub at all (even at full turn and reverse) But, she rarely sees full flex on a trail either.

You're probably trimmed at your pinch welds and some plastic too :superhack:- I'm guessing. The Clevis lift certainly gave you the needed room.
The cool thing is the 265 75's make the Liberty look like a Tonka Truck....for those of you old enough to remember those...:evil:

Not sure what part of NC you are in, but if any hills at all then going to 265-75s you're going to loose a load of power, forget over drive and mileage
PLUS they'll rub like crazy with a spacer lift I would bet
Stay smaller ( 245-75 or 265-700 and don't listen to ones that say sure go ahead and install the 265-75S

let me chime in with my .02
loose the entire oe suspension ,it is shot
get OME coils and shocks
run 245/75 tires on OE wheels
you will have no gearing issues with the 45rfe

I know this to be fact because we ran all over East TN and west NC ,smokies, several times in our '03 with the 45rfe and 245/75 MTR's

x2 on this. I have run MANY different tire sizes. Right now i have 285/75-16. Yes, you can fit them. Very slight rub, only in reverse when flexing. and the "look" good. But... Gas mileage ***** - BAD. And power is lacking. I even lose speed going over overpasses on the interstate if I am in overdrive. 265/75-16's were not much better.

I will be stepping back to 265/70-16 in the spring.

Either that or re-gear to 4.10's.

which 245/75's?
style and brand will make all the difference
like I said an '03 with OME coils all around and the day I put the coils on
I also put on 245/75 Goodyear MTR's
perfect fit ,close but no rub
unless you count the rear at very full stuff

That being said I know that the springs were sagging after 3 years and 30K miles so after 8 years and how ever many miles the coils on your rig are done and probably about 1" lower than the day thy were put on the Jeep
so to say no rub with 245/75 I can believe
to say you should have gone 265/75 because the smaller tires do not rub
I say BS ,unless you want it to rub or you are trying to tell us that your KJ is different than the rest and did not sag and can fit larger tires than every one else which could very well be the case

I Bought an 02 prelowered kj.. thought i could lift it cheap and get some big tires (265/75R16 Maxxis bighorns).. all was well for all of about a month or two.. then it started to rub then rub some more and more and more.. then I listened to everyone and ditched the spacers for OME/Rancho. Rubbing went away, and everyone is happy. except my wallet from mpg... but thats a different post..
