Hello Gents,

This is my first post on the site, and I was looking for a little advice/verification about the following setup. I have been reading and searching old posts and I think this setup would work, but I want to be positive. I'm looking at getting the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's in P245/70R16 with the Cragar soft 8's at 16x7 w/ 4" BS. I have a stock 2007 Liberty. Is this the max for no rub without a lift? Also, how would the 16x8's w/ 5" BS fit compared with the 16x7's w/ 4" BS? Does the wider rim distort the tire shape? And lastly, what do you guys think about the LT245/75R16? Would that rub? Thanks in advance for any help.

Well a 16x7 rim with 4" of BS will stick out the same as a 16x8 rim with 5" of BS.You will rub some with the 245/70 tires, unless you keep the stock rims which are 16x7 with 5.5" of BS.I don't know why everyone goes to a 8" wide rim and then run 245's on them, that's a wide wheel for 245's,I run 265's on a 7" rim(it states to run a 7" rim right on the tire),I wouldn't go to a 8" rim unless you mount 285's or 12.50" tires or wider.245/75's will rub like crazy on a unlifted KJ,more so with different rims then the OEM ones.

So, the more backspace the less rub, but the more it will stick out? do they make soft 8's in 16x7 with 5" BS?

To a point, the more BS(don't exceed 5.5") will eliminate the pinchweld rub and inner fender liner rub but will rub on the swaybar and/or UCA with 245 and wider tires. It's just how much you are willing to trim/beat down and/or live with the rubbing.

but the more it will stick out?
HUH? The OEM rims are 16x7 with 5.5" BS,so a 16x7 rim with 4" BS will stick out 1 1/2" farther then the OEM rims,a 16x8 rim with 5" BS will also stick out 1 1/2" farther then the OEM ones due to the wider width and less BS,1" + .5" = 1 1/2".BS is measured by placing a straight edge on the backside of the rim(without the tire mounted) and then measure the distance to the backside of the mounting flange(where the wheel studs go through).

do they make soft 8's in 16x7 with 5" BS?
No,only for the 16x8 size.

Wouldnt it be 1" total? The rim is 1" wider but you measure the radius of it since it mounts in the middle, not the Diameter. Then the BS is 1/2more so it would stick out 1in more total. I know my cragars do not stick out 1.5in more than the stock rims. They are almost even with the edge of the flares.

I had 16x8 Cragars with 5"BS and 245/70/16 tires. I do not get any rubbing except on the rear at full flex without extended bumpstops. There was a guy on here that recently got 16x8cragars with 245/70/16 tires and he gets rubbing on the rear flares when only flexing very little.

OK, after taking some time to look at the charts on the main tire page I see how it works. The more backspace you have the less the tire sticks out. The stock rims I have at 16x7 assuming 5.5" of BS would have an offset of 38mm while a 16x7 Soft 8 Cragar w/4" of BS would have a neutral offset. Therefore, it would extend the *wheel* 1.5" outboard where it sits now. A 16x8 wheel w/5" of BS would extend the *wheel* 1" beyond where it sits now. But the stock tires are 225/75R16. So, according to the Wikibook on Jeep KJ's a 245/70R16 will extend 0.4" inboard and outboard of the original tire and add an additional 0.6" to the radius.

For a 16x8 w/5" of BS the wheel would extend 1" outboard of the original. Then having a 245/70R16 would extend 0.4" inboard and outboard of the original tire and add an additional 0.6" to the radius. But I just read on Tiretrack that for every 1" you add to wheel width you add 0.4" to tire width.

So net effect is 1.9" outboard of the original with 16x7 w/4" BS and 1.8" outboard of original with 16x8 w/5" BS. BUT, the inboard side of the 16x8 tire would only be extended 0.2" out from the original, while the inboard side of the 16x7 would be 1.1" from the original tire.

Soooooooo......the outboard side of the 16x7 would only be 0.1" outside of the 16x8 with the same tire, but the inboard side of the 16x7 would be almost 1.1" outside where the 16x8 would fit!!!

This shit shouldn't be this complicated.

And just because you read all that.....
