Had my 2005 2.8 CRD KJ/Liberty/Cherokee for a couple of years now. It's actually a UK "Jeep Cherokee Renegade", just to make things more difficult when trying to look up parts...
Love it so far, despite the problems. It seems incredibly hard to get mechanics familiar with them. When I first bought it it had an oil leak and local garages simply said the parts were not available now from suppliers (it was a turbo pipe I ended up ordering from the US and then found one at a breaker..).
I've had the windows not wind up (a switch on the centre console), a snapped serpentine belt, £350/$500+ road tax per year. I've found out the roof rails appear to only be for show and despite looking very bulky will only support low weight when I looked to get something to carry a kayak. The electric mirrors are temperamental and need the doors opened and closed sometimes. The rear window electric heater element tab fell off so it's just now a worthless hanging tab. The hydraulics on the bonnet/hood and rear glass are gone so they're unsafe/annoying. The engine light is permanently on, I think due to glow plugs. But also it's fun to drive. It has a lot more poke than you expect. The bodywork is amazing, it still looks like new - I had a Ford driving tailgating cretin bounce off the back of me almost concertinaing his front end and could not even find a mark on the jeep. The seat height is great. I don;t need it often, but got me home with 4WD when I would otherwise have been stuck in the road in snow.

Welcome as well to the forums.
Probably best to get is scanned for engine codes.
My rear window defroster electrical connector was repaired by a glass shop.
Is the hood release cable not working?
Here is the 2005 factory service manual to help you sort though things.
The CRD information is combined inside each section: http://www.colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/2005JeepKJServiceManual.pdf

Another common oil leak in the same area is the oil pressure sending unit located just above the oil filter.

The Euro turbo system is different than the US version so, parts and solutions may vary.

ID Parts has many parts for the 2.8 CRD including hood struts. Sasquatch has CRD stuff as well. LOSTJEEPS forum is the mother lode for information on your Italian VM Motori engine. On LOST, Yeti is the Italian with the tune. The window fix is on this forum every couple of weeks when it happens to somebody else, you're it!

Timing belt and water pump changes are critical for this engine's survival. ID Parts sells a timing belt kit. Belt change is done at 90° past TDC with a couple of cam locating (NOT holding) pins. The marks on the cam pulleys are meaningless, there's a special tool to hold them in place when tightened. Timing belts should be replaced every 100,000 US miles or 6 years. Idler pulleys have left handed threads. The ceramic glow plugs eat engines and should be replaced with metal Bosch or Etechno 5 volt glow plugs.

Give it a slow warmup and a few minutes idle before shut down. Your aluminum head will think well of you and your turbo won't go to pieces.

@turblediesel Hi ;) can you help me to guess wich voltage i have on my export CRD 2,8 L. Due to the 90000 miles i think they are maybe the original ones... bakelite connector i saw plugged at one glow plug is Bosch. Find 2 pict. of pre heater and front sticker. 7V Bosch are so expensive at 200 euros the 4 kit, i will look on 11V or 5V depends what you advise ?

With the 5V metal spark plug i dont need to take care about my current pre heater 12V right ? if i use 11V Metal spark plug it will work but not efficient as the 5V, correct ? E-tecno1, never heard but i see they are located in Italy but sell to retailers... I saw that the bosch original pre-heater is not sold, being replaced by others. must be from 2006 too, how long does this part can live ?

MKultra - you've had a KJ longer than me but it's my 5th Jeep over 10 years or so (& I've only dumped one of them) so well used to parts chasing. Apart from Renegade specific parts, ignore that (too many other Renegades) & just stick to "KJ" - although even that isn't foolproof because some sites seem convinced it's just a typo for "JK" (Jeep are not very search criteria savvy when it comes to model designations).
Any competent mechanic should be able to maintain/repair one but many may not want to (understandably). Given the reputation diesel XJ's had I'm surprised the KJ also has a VM, although that does mean that a LandRover specialist might be your unlikely friend.

The engine in a KJ is a world apart from the old Range Rover and XJ VM.

Thank the Lord for that but I still thought they'd have learned their lesson, in fact, I thought they had - in other models. Oh well, if the "new" engine's not shared with anything else, bang goes that line of seeking assistance/parts.
