Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Cops in NJ are the same way as long as it ain't any crazy color the cops won't bother you
Same way where I'm from and have 3 good friends that are city cops.If they suspect something they always have those HID's as a excuss to pull you over and search your vehicle.

Heck even offroad lights it's a law in my state that they must be covered at all times on a public roads. The cops will not do anything if you leave them uncovered as it's a $20 ticket. They wait to catch you with them on then it's a $600 fine per light turned on after the 4 your allowed(2 low beams,2 high beams,or low beams with fogs on).

Hmmm this is all really interesting. I never realized how much of a fight HIDs were. I've never really been badly blinded by any of them either.

Cheap import HID bulb kits are becoming more common here in South Africa too. I often get blinded by some **** who thinks his bluish super-bright headlights are the coolest thing ever. I can't wait til my LED spots are built, so I can in them back.
I found a site recently dedicated to proper HID retrofitting (with projectors) . I think it was something like www.hiduniverse.com
