High Altitude Expedition - 2008!!!

It's time to take the KJ "High Altitude" Edition out of storage and hit the trails of southwest Colorado again...

We're leaving Phoenix Sep 13 for Ouray, CO and will return on Sep 19. As always, everyone is welcome to join in for some fun trails high up in the San Juan Mountains.

We'll be staying at the Comfort Inn at Ouray (970) 325-7203. Rates are high, but it's clean.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll post up more details.

Very beautiful place.

Well, we're off on our expedition. We'll be leaving Phoenix for base camp in Ouray, CO early tomorrow afternoon. It's too bad no-one else could join us and my buddy from Colorado Springs. It would of been nice to have a few more people along.

Just some of our trail food for the expedition....

Hey Casey, what's with the new ride!!!

We missed having you and some of the others from JeepKJ Country and L.O.S.T. along for our 'High Altitude Expedition ~ 2008'. We did join up with my old Air Force buddy from Colorado Springs. We had a great time. The trip was more scenic than technical. The trails we did were not difficult, just a lot of rocks and sheer cliffs which are not for the faint of heart.

I haven't made up my mind if we're going up for the LOST run next July or not, but if anyone wants to go or do our own, we'd be more than happy to lead or pass on trail information.

Just for planning purposes, the six day trip cost us $1,350.00 for a room at the Comfort Inn at Ouray, food and gas. Gas was $4.17 a gallon up there. It's not a cheap area to play in.

Click on any thumbnail for a larger view and enjoy the pics....

dont mean to hijack this thread but... I bought a house w/ some land on the edge of goodyear in june, its been time & $ consuming moving into the place and getting settled. Hoping by the end of the year ill be ready to hit the trail again. Planning on being well preped for LOST FITS next year. Right now i have no lift, no skids, but the Taco is as tall stock as the libby was "after" the lift. Stock 9.3" @ front skid, 12" ish at the tx case, 10.ish" at the rear diff. W/ this thing, sky is the limit. Researching a 6" lift w/ 33's. but cost for that is like ouch! when it cools off i would like to invite everyone ovr for a BBQ if there is any interest...

Casey... count Beth and myself in!!! Haven't been to a new home party in a long time. If you need a cook let me know, I've been known to do some trail BBQ'ng and let us know what you want us to bring, other than the 'dogs'... that's your department ;)

Very cool pics AJ. We still have to get out there, we're probably going to shoot for LOST's July outing.

And o8k still exists!

Russ... thanks!!! We already have our reservations at the Comfort Inn in Ouray for next July.

Yeah uh-huh, like you've been very active the past couple of months
Kevin... LOL, since your run a month ago, haven't seen much of you at all, but then it seems like we've all been slacking off this summer. With cooler weather and gas prices dropping, it's time to get rolling again!!!

Casey... post something up and they will come. FYI, LOST is planning their Trick or Jeep at the Cochise Stronghold on the east side of the state this year if you want to check it out.

Oh, and post up a pic or two of your new Taco....

Yeah I've been slackin', but there's also been the medical issues my mom has been dealing with (long story but nothing serious or life-threatening). Looking at doing a run with some other HAMs on the 19th but I'm not 100% that I'll make it, and I'm off to Vegas the weekend of 'Trick or Jeep'. But yeah I am definitely ready for cooler weather and some quality dirt time :)
