I looked at the intake again today. I looked as close as I could. It seems like the whole intake part is sealed off. My only conclusion is that the hood itself is a snorkel.

here is the hood where there is an opening. The pic makes it look closed but that is actually an open "duct".

it look like there is a channel that goes all the way to the top of the hood by the cowl where there is another hole:

I can't make any other conclusion about it other than this. Am I nuts?? probably. :freak3:

No. You got called a dick for being a dick. The response to his "am I nuts?" is fine because he asked. I didnt ask for some guy to give me a smart ass answer.

Thanks for the replies. I still just don't understand the intake. It looks like it wouldn't get any air from the front at all and suck air through the hood.

Anyway, you can call me what you want especially if I ask. Sticks n stones right? Usually, people who tell it how it is and don't beat around the bush are called *****.

It is a snorkel. I had my Jeep sunk over the airbox with the engine on for a few minutes and sucked in no water. That top part of my hood was the only part of my front end not underwater.

We've had water come up well over the hood as well.
Right up onto the windshield without sucking any water into the engine
luckily.
The air box does act as a snorkel being that the intake trumpet is at the
leading edge of the hood and is surrounded by the foam gasket which seals
the incoming air from entering the rest of the engine compartment.
Even with removing the small plastic air deflector situated in front of the
air intake snout.
The only thing I have noticed removing that deflector is that the air filter
gets a little wet during heavy rain fall.

Surely the hole at the base of the hood (near the hinge) would be far too narrow to let the engine breathe properly. Look at the diameter of your average snorkel, then look at that hole. Besides which, the piece
Interesting thought - and could potentially make a pretty clever snorkel design - but it can't be...
