Was thinking of buying 2 front tow hooks from someone. Only thing is they have no brackets, can you purchase the brackets separately?

The bracket is part of the tow hook on the KJ, all you need is the bolt plate that goes up into the frame, if yours didn't have tow hooks on it. I saw some pictures on an old post where a guy just reached up and put bolts down through the holes but i don't know how reliable that is or if its even recommended.

Yep, the bracket is part of the tow hook.:)

How do you bolt it up though if you didn't have one?? I was trying to find the answer for the guy as mine doesn't and did not have any. I saw one post where a guy just put some grade 8 bolts down through the three holes but i don't see how you could do that because the outer two holes on mine you can't access the top side of the holes to put them down through. Or am i missing something here?

I'm not thinking straight, but I know some find it easier to remove the bumper for the install.

Sorry....:)

The bolts.....if it doesn't come with them.:)

I looked again, how do you get the bolts in there? The single hole is accessible through another hole to the side of it, easy to reach in and drop a bolt. But on my 03' at least the other two holes are boxed in without access to the top side.

I was just trying to picture how you guys install them on a KJ that didn't have them from the factory. It was enough work putting on my brush/grille guard.

Looks easier just to remove the bumper.....

There's a special " M" bolt supplied with a new set from Mopar. Yes the bolt is bent to a M shape and that is the way the is designed to be fished up through one hole and down through the other hole from underneath.

Ahhh ok!! Now that makes sense. You wouldn't have to take the bumper off and god only knows why you would want to, more hardware to deal with and those rivets to replace.

Would a good grade of U-Bolt work for that maybe?

I don't think so, but you could always try the stealership, but it comes with the hooks so I don't know if they would give you the bolt.

The u-bolt idea I don't think would work.

The only way my stealership would gt me the 'M' bolts was if I bought the hooks from them, so I just took off the front skin and dropped some grade 8's in through the front.

The Mopar u bolts are specially made and one end is longer than the other so you can fish it up easier. I installed mine without removing anything.

My opinion would be to make sure you get all the installation hardware. But that's just my opinion. It was just a tight spot on the instal on my 05 KJ but otherwise an easy install. I know the bumpers are different on the earlier models but mine was not that hard without removing anything.

Just my opinion.
