What is going on: A drill is on using 150 watts through PowerBox.
Meanwhile the inverter in the rear ACC is powering the charge onto the PowerBox giving the full 500 watt anywhere or for charging. Handy.

It is a nice 20 amp standalone AGM packed into that powerbox. It also has jumper cables if the jeep needs a jump.
Some now add solar panel to the mix as well.

I just substitute the Jeep for charging the powerbox when running on road now.
The main inverter can power up front while a cig lighter Acc goes also into powerbox in rear. I am liking this set up.

Next Motorcycle Inverter Power!

Without CT's larger stores, I would be lost for stuff here.
Normally when things work good, I buy two of them. Here is example.
Going to cut up this extension cord. The Accessory female socket has a rubber cap as well. It is getting connected to battery with ring terminals, so I can use inverter on bike to charge cell phone and camera battery, while riding down the road! Rated at 8 amp, I will also be able to use the male end to connect to a battery charger for home charging the bike battery then as well.

what bike do you plan on using that on. many bikes charging systems are really weak

That is the nice thing about the small inverter (180 watt. 90 continuous) it does not use much power if you are only charging cell phone or a small camera battery. That's what I need on road with bike.
Just tested it on the 20 amp battery for bike.
No problem at all with green light for 15 minutes charging camera battery, with no charge going in from alternator.
The bike's charger is a 3 phase, variable,max 20 amp out.
It will work as planned for My 650 Honda.

Inverter Tip Broke

Had to return the 180watt 90 cont inverter as the tip's ring was plastic and it cracked when removing from an accessory socket. You could screw it back down & inverter still worked, but obviously this plastic has issues. So with the new one I decided I would tape it to a 6 foot acc extension, and leave it in there with out having to remove inverter again.
So in further testing with Bike battery and 60 watt light bulb and cell phone charging/camera battery also attached to a 3 way splitter, the draw is about 4 amps needed to keep voltage up from a charger. Without charger after 5 minutes voltage in bike battery was 12.86 volts.
Needless to say overall this is a good portable inverter. Will keep a notebook happy and you can charge stuff easily. With the 3 way adapter in you can connect a few things and this thing is good to go.

My wife uses a Black and Decker 400w inverter in her liberty for a heating pad, no heated seats in this jeep. I think the heating pad pulls maybe 75watts, so its no problem. We have also used it to charge cell phones, run computer, charge camera battery etc... The inverter sets under the seat. I've thought about hardwiring it in and finding a 120v outlet I can put somewhere on the dash or center console, but just haven't got around to it. I think the B&D cost about $30 at Walmart

120v heater pad, that makes getting into KJ in winter nice for her, I am sure.
Does she have the bottom panel only with a thermostat?

Well bad news on the 300 watt inverter. Plugged into accessory or direct to battery, the 17" notebook refuses to cooperate or charge properly.
I guess the sine wave on this isp:
I also bought a cheapo 75 watt direct plug in accessory one that worked for 5 minutes and then crapped the notebook out. So I guess the notebook is probably drawing around 100watts , but at least it initially worked.
So tomorrow both go back to crappy tire, and am going to try this 180 watt direct plug in inverter and try that with notebook. Will post back results.

You shouldn't need a pure sine-wave to run your laptop. What's the rating on the laptop power supply? My old 300 watt inverter wouldn't run and charge the laptop at the same time. It would charge it if it were off, or run it if it were fully charged, but not both. And yeah, 75 watt cheapo won't work a laptop.

That setup is a 1,500 watt inverter rated for 1,200 watts continuous. To operate it I jumpered it to my Liberty's battery while it was running. However the jumper cables were too small of a gauge and I had to add a second set. I'm going to have to get some lengths of welding cable.

I suppose the ideal setup would be to run it off of two batteries with the engine off.

Hmm, these should work well with the 1500 watt inverter.

Bike Inverter

With nice weather last weekend, got to test with VOM the inverter on bike.
Findings: I need a new battery. Mine is 6 years old, and the inverter was pulling the voltage down quick at idle.
It required 2000 rpm to keep up.
So as long as you are cruising it will work fine.
A newer battery should provide enough power at idle to keep the voltage up with inverter running.
