There is a bright red 4x4 selling at an auction this week and I thought I'd try and buy it. Looks clean and seems to run fine. What's the most I should pay in good condition? And what are the weak spots to look for with the diesel?

Timing belt is due every 100k. 05 had more issues than 06. With a high possibility that I'd have to chang the timing belt, I'd pay no more than $3k at auction.

Somewhere between being sane and insane!
Timing belt parts and labor is 'spensive
Very true for the CRD's.

Nowdays if you do the swap yourself and do it correctly all the parts will be about $500-$600 and the water pump is on backorder with no ship dates.Don't forget the special tools needed or have to make yourself also.

If someone else does the work it will be about $1000+ and still have backordered parts to wait on.
