CRD Instant MPG?

I have a 2006 CRD. Love that Torque, want better milage. I need an electronic watchdog to keep me from playing with the torque.

Does anyone have an evic or otis that gives instant MPG on a diesel.

You'll have to read through the article(s), but I think some of the earlier ones (2001, 2002) had instant MPG. Of course, the 2001 would have to be out of a Grand Cherokee or something else. The bummer will be that the temp will not work. My 2003 does NOT have the instant MPG feature.

what other vehicle can i steal from for a 05 libby install

Read the article(s) - Grand Cherokee, Pickups, etc. Writing on the buttons = EVIC (pixalated "better" display). Writing near the buttons = OTIS (standard "line" based display). EVIC's are more desireable. If you want your temp readout to work, you'll need a 2004+ EVIC, which are expensive and hard to find. I have a 2003 in my 2007 KJ, and it works perfectly except the temp readout is "--". I got mine for $20 with bracket and harness from a local junkyard.

Oh - yeah, you may need the bracket that goes behind the headliner. Look through this thread, it was discussed as to which years had them. My 2007 most certainly didn't.

Help!!!

Hey guys I'm new to the forum but this place seems like it has some excellent resources and people devoted to helping.
Last night I installed an EVIC into my '06 Liberty, the EVIC came from an '03. Everything went really good except for the reversal of the dome lights (found the solution a few pages back). The other issue I am have is my key FOB no longer works. When I go to the train the remote on the EVIC, it prompts me to "press a valid key fob button" I do and nothing happens, I have tried both of my keys and niether of them will communicate with the EVIC. Also the "red dot" light is on right below my speedometer and fuel gauge. I believe this is the SENTRY KEY/SECURITY ALARM INDICATOR LIGHT. Any help would be more than appreciated. Thanks!

will I get temp reading??

Hi guys!! I've been reading this thread a lot!! I just bought an EVIC, it came out of an 04 Grand Cherokee. I went to the site with the instructions for the installation (http://www.jeepkj.com/evic/) and checked the number on the back of my EVIC and was 56042754AJ, and in the site had a (February 2003) on the side of the number, does anyone knows if this is an older model or something?. Will this EVIC give the temp readout on an 04 KJ? I haven't had time to install it but I might do it soon!!! I don't want to see my EVIC on my desk any longer!!! thanks!!!

so as i see it

as i see it for a 04 i would have to use a EVIC from an 04 and up model kj. if i dont and use some thing out of a GC i wont get the temp to register, right.

but the only thing im struggling with is if i use a EVIC from a 04 kj i don't get instant MPG. so if i use an EVIC from an older model will every thing work correctly, except the TEMP.

Is there a way i can get it all (Temp, homelink, instant MPG........)

and does any one have the part numbers for a EVIC Mid level that's from/for an 04 kj?

thanks

oh and yes i did read all 17pages of this howto but i still didn't seem to get my ? answered lol

SilverRenegade, you've probably figured this out by now but the 2004 EVIC you have, 56042754AJ, is actually newer than the 56042754AI that is also listed on the EVIC install site. The letters at the end are in alphabetical order. J superceded I.

Unfortunately the answer at the moment appears to be 'NO'. From the research done in other threads it appears that in '04(?) DCX changed how the EVIC derives the temperature information - in an '02-'03 MY Liberty the EVIC got the info from the BCM (body control module) which read the temperature from the sensor in the front grille; after '04 the EVICs get the temperature information from the PCM (powertrain control module). And since the loss of the instantaneous MPG option seemed to occur at the same time I'd have to say your stuck with one or the other.

Sunroof switch change between 02-04 and 05-07

I recently installed an EVIC in my 2006 Liberty Sport CRD. After a few weeks of searching (I bought one first on ebay, that was full of dirt and had rust on the components of the module's circuit board, which I returned to the seller) I found a 2006 EVIC at a salvage yard near my home. Since it was an 06 and that meant the temp would work on my 06 I didn't worry that it didn't have a sunroof switch, which I needed. I found a sunroof switch from a 2004 Liberty, for cheap, on eBay and cut a hole in the EVIC housing for the switch. You can trace around the bottom of the switch for the shape to cut out. The switch is held in place with 4 tabs that pop out after it is pushed into the hole. It's easy to do if you find an EVIC without a sunroof switch and need one. After the Switch is installed you can't tell it wasn't a factory job because of the trim that covers the hole. Make sure to cut the hole just slightly wider than the switch (1/32"-1/16", you can shave off a little at a time with a sharp utility knife) so the tabs on the switch have room to compress and pop out after they are pushed into hole. Keep the length of the hole tight to the switch. If you buy a new switch they are about $10.00. When I attempted to plug the wiring harness into the sunroof switch, I found that the 02-04 sunroof switches have a different pin configuration than the 05-07 switches do. The 02-04 switches have one row of four pins and the 05-07 switches have two rows of two pins Everything else is pretty much the same and they fit the same shaped hole in the housing. I bought an 05-07 switch and every fits now. Just thought I'd post this as something to be aware of when installing your EVICs.

Hi all :)

Great thread here. I have read all (I hope) and am wondering if I can install an OTIS or EVIC on my new/used '05 KJ Sport. It has keyless entry, if that matters, but not that many other options. I miss my '02 KJ Limited, which my wife totalled a few weeks ago (T-boned right behind her. She's fine ; sore neck). The Limited had an OTIS with Home Link ; I miss that horribly in the '05 Sport. At first, I thought I would get the OTIS from my '02 but now I realize after reading here that outside temp won't work ; I want outside temp though.

Would getting an '04+ EVIC work ? I'd settle for an OTIS, if that's doable, and could look around some junk yards to get one.

Off-topic question (please don't shoot, I'm unarmed ;) ) : I had audio buttons on the '02 steering wheel and don't in the '05 Sport. Can something simple be done ? I can get my old wheel back, but have no idea how/if the wiring and whatnot works or fits (?).

I'm a noob so please go easy.

Cheers.

Welcome Mark. Since you have the keyless entry that tells us you have the premium BCM which is required if you want to install an EVIC/OTIS. Yes one out of an '04+ KJ will work, should get the temp and everything.

On the stereo controls, there is another how-to that covers that, you can find it right here.

Hope this answers your questions.

i am supposed to buy this.. but wanna be sure first... would this work with my 2003 sport KJ... only have keyless entry...

the part number says: 04760145BG, model:lhcmtc 75813, std v9812, sun v9813, vh93321780f

and I think it is a OTIS and not an EVIc. the function are below the buttons and not on the buttons itself.

it says it has: Overhead Console Dome Light with Homelink, Digital Display, SunRoof Switch

should this work on my KJ?

Thank you Corwyyn

I swear I looked for a How To about audio buttons but didn't find it earlier

Now I know I can install an EVIC (or OTIS) from '04 and up. Cool ! One more question : which one should I get, ideally ? I don't know if they had OTIS and/or EVICs in '05 for the KJ. I've read that units from a GC will also work ('04+) ; outside temp will work also with these ?

This is what I'll do : I'll look around locally for some units and post back here when/if I find some, and then I'll have specifics for you guys so I can figure out what to expect and what to do next.

Back here soon I hope :)

I have a 2006 Liberty Sport, and picked up an evic that came out of a 2006. It came with the full wiring harness still attached. None of the ends were cut off, or clipped. It appears that it was taken off a vehicle that was junked. So, with all that, does anyone know how/where all these connectors plug in at so I can replace the dome light with the EVIC without having to do the splicing that was in the how to?

I just put an otis from an unkown vehicle.(just lying on a pile at the wrecker) for $17 CAD. I got an OAT sensor and harness for $2 more. The install was a snap but the trip doesn't work. No biggy as I mostly just wanted the temp and compass. Great write up! Thanks

Wow, you were some lucky pal. You were lucky to find an OTIS for such a cheap price complete with the harness and that the particular OTIS is compatible for your year of Libby. I paid $75 each for and OTIS & an EVIC and both refuse to display the ambient temperature due to model year conflicts.

I suggest that you keep looking for an EVIC for your model year of Libby. It has a whole lot more features and should plug right into the same console as your OTIS.
