How to test front diff

Is there any specific way to test if the front diff is working as it should when in 4x4?

With the Jeep in 2wd, jack up one front tire. It should spin freely along with the front driveshaft. Next, engage 4wd. If it is working properly, you won’t be able to spin the tire. The only exception to the above is if someone installed a front locker, and the raised wheel doesn’t spin in 2wd, or if it does, it makes a ratcheting sound.
