and have heard that it is better than the newer trannys (03+) for the gas kj at low end torque and strength wise. But what about the 05/06 diesel kj? How does it compare to the 02 ******?

They are the same except the one in the diesel KJ has 5 gears. There is no physical difference, the only difference is the programming.

You get a cookie!

I thought you both posted at the same time but then realized the 25 minute difference. LOL.

Not true, the 545RFE IS DIFFERENT inside then the 45RFE,look up the parts #'s for the internals,They do use some of the same stuff but not all is the same.

Oh and the 45RFE is really a 5speed auto,it has two 2nd gears but the programming only allows the other 2nd gear to be used in kick down at highway speeds.

The 545RFE is really a 6speed auto, same wtory as the 45RFE with the two 2nd gears but also has a second overdrive ratio.

A bunch of people were getting their 45rfe's in the grands reprogrammed as a 545rfe. They did not change any internals.

Then they do not have a 545RFE,the 2 are different. They may just have had it programed to unlock the other 2nd gear for normal driving and claim to have a 545RFE.The cases are the same but the different internals is what determines what are the gear ratios and how many you get.

They may not be exactly the same but should have similar strengths and low end torque. Right?

Should. Depends what 'internals' that tjkj says are different. You should never have any troubles out of either ****** since they used the 545 behind the hemi and the 45rfe behind the 4.7..

I have over 130K on mine now and haven't had any problems with the transmission or engine.
