Just been looking changeing the ATF and gearbox filters on my new Jeep, I haven't picked it up yet so I can't check but the parts shop has it listed with 2 filters, a flat intake filter and a metal canister pressure filter, however looking on YouTube there is only one filter, do US Jeeps and Euro diesels have a different gearbox? I thought they all had a 545?
I'll find out at the weekend when I collect it but I was hoping to get the parts ordered in advance so I could get on with it immediately, as the previous owner has no knowledge of it ever being charged, thankfully it has loads of history for engine services and a new cam belt so no worries there.

My CRD with the 545RFE transmission has two filters, a flat filter and an internally mounted spin-on filter. The flat filter has a seal on the tube.

Definitely 2, I've seen'em on U-tube. Not that it answers the question of exports being different, in that respect, but that seems unlikely.

The Video may be a petrol but its definitely a different gearbox.

Flat filter (should come with a new seal) is the suction filter and the canister (spin-on) is the return filter. All RFE's to this day (some 6.4 Rams still use them) still use this setup.

Just something about that vid. which makes me wonder if, despite the external shots, whether he's actually working on a KJ (or, indeed, a 45RFE or 545RFE). Can't say it inspires confidence.

The CRD had a different automatic to handle the torque (545RFE) it does has the flat and spin on filter. If you have a gas engine, your auto WILL be different.

2.8 CRD so it should be a 545.

Very first slide says what it is lol....02 to early 03 got the RFE behind the 3.7, then they cheaped out and put the 42RLE behind all the gas engines. The RFE was the only one strong enough for the CRD's torque (the CRD makes almost as much torque as the same year 5.7 hemi).

So it does, I missed that altogether, & when I went back to it that text is in grey (unlike that screenshot), so barely visible, never mind legible, against a black background. Why that should be I have no idea but, anyway we got there in the end - & I've learned something (always a plus).
