I take it the loose auger cable is not supposed to be...loose...

I'm guessing it fits into the white bracket attached to the window. It snapped off so clean that I can't even tell where it was previously hooked on, unless it's on the back side.

Now to try and decide whether to replace the whole works or just the broken part. Then find the right part.

EDIT: Would this work? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NJ4YG8Q/

Just ordered it. For $17, if it does the trick I will feel lucky.

Right now I have two miniature bungee cords holding the glass up. I'm going camping tomorrow and didn't like the idea of hiking off into the woods for hours with all those picture hooks glued to the glass. I felt like I might as well have had a sign on the window saying "Window Broken - Please Help Yourself To Any Of My Stuff".

The bungees look good. I used the kind with the little wire hooks at the end. With the inner panel off, I put one hook under the glass, brought it up the window channel and over the top of the inside of the door, then hooked the other end on one of the unused holes down by where the door lock bar comes across. With just one bungee cord on there I couldn't budge the window even when I tried. Then I added a second one just to really be sure.

I hope not. (And doubt it.) They are stretched so tight there is no play left in them. These are those light 10" suckers they throw in with the 24-Piece Bungees sets. You get 16 longer bungee cords worthy of the name and 8 of these dinky ones to make the marketing department happy. :icon_lol:

Now you can repackage all the dinky ones and sell them (at a significant profit) on ebay as Jeep Liberty window closure assistant cords.

Finally found a weekend where I was not busy with other work nor camping in the mountains and finally got it done. I'm not convinced the aftermarket plastic bracket I bought is much better than the broken original, but since that one made it nine years I might be good for a while.

I made nearly every mistake you can make along the way (bracket upside down; metal coil extended the wrong way; etc.) but got it fixed. Thanks to all who offered helpful advice. :)

PS: I really need to order something from 1A Auto one of these days... :icon_lol:

After reading through this thread I'm thoroughly convinced MANY of the posters have been a member of the "window lickers club" since kindergarden!:idiot::idiot:

Currently using blue painters tape (and a lot of it :happy175:) to hold up my rear passenger windows. It has only been a few weeks and I hope I can get it fixed in the next couple weeks so I don't have to mess around with tape residue.

I had nothing but electrical tape when it happened and I was out in the mountains. Had to get out the razor blade and window foam after I was done today... :emotions34:

Razor blade works perfect in removing residue and cuts time down efficiently. Second trick if you don't like to use the blade is WD-40 or Goo Gone.

It took a few rounds but I did manage to get it clean. In fact, it was so clean I finally noticed how much the other windows needed a good scrubbing. :icon_lol:

Me next! Drivers window was acting kinda jerky yesterday and today. Just thought "I'm getting set to join the club". After leaving the Jim Beam Distillary I went to roll down the window and it cam down about a quarter inch and stopped. Thought that a good thing, better stuck up than down. Then it slipped down another 3 inches, but the motor rolled it up ok. Would that kit in the video from A1 more than likely do the trick? It's an 03.
