Just Purchased a Liberty Today!

I'd like to introduce myself. I purchased a 2006 Liberty Trail-Rated Limited this afternoon.

It has 35,000 miles on it so it appears I need to have the 30,000 service done since it appears to have missed it. I'll also need to replace the tires shortly -- any recommendations?

Is there anything I need to know or be aware of?

The bridge-stone revo is a popular tire although I believe its over priced. I personally like the yokohama Geolander A/T-S

As far as tires go, you'll get as many opinions as there are users on the forum A lot of people run the BFG ATs or Goodyears, me I just went with some low-cost Pathfinders from Discount Tire...

Make sure all the recall work has been done on it. ie: lower ball joints (I think the 06 was included in the latest recall for that, anyway). Other than that, anything else that you need to be aware of depends on what you plan on doing with your Libby. If you're going to be off-roading it much, you might want to look at aftermarket LBJs and UCAs. The UCA seems to be the weakest link on our suspensions.

"Trail rated" does not mean "trail ready." You may still need skid plates and recovery hooks (at a minimum). Like I said, it all depends on what you're planning to do.

I just bought a Liberty too about a month ago. I got the red crystal coat jeep sport 6spd.

I also think im going to follow the manual on when to do stuff.. I just had to have the ball joints and blower motor fixed. before i bought the jeep i asked them to set me up an appointment to get that stuff fixed..

I don't remember who, but someone told me that if the build date was AFTER somewhere around May, '06 then it would have the new ball joints. I'm not sure if that's accurate or not, but my '06 was not included in that recall.

Thanks for the advice! I ran my VIN on Jeep's website and all is well regarding recalls. Looking for tires now. My brother manages a NTB and he is pushing me towards the Michelin Cross Terrain or LTZ M+S. I'm not a heavy off-road driver right now since this will be my only cage -- I usually rely on my BMW GS motorbike for transport and fun ... hehehehe. It's the motorbike equal of a SUV.

Of the two Michelins, which would be recommended for an asphalt transport vehicle seeing year-round duty -- with an occasional trip to the ski resort and hardpack double-track?

I am a big fan of the BF Goodrich All Terrains. Pricey, but worth it in my opinion. Work well, look great, wear awesome. I'll be getting some as soon as I can justify it. Stock tires have 4k miles on them and I can't off them yet

I agree - my mom's Tahoe has the LTX's on it (If I remember correctly) and they ride nicely and wear excellent for on road. Not sure about off-road, the Tahoe has hardly ever seen a dirt road.

Cooper H/Ts work great for the highway driving I'm doing between now and the end of the year. Looking at getting BFG A/Ts after that.

What about Goodyear Silent Armors or Bridgestone Revo A/T tires? I've ran the Revo's and loved them for an on-road 98% of the time tire.

I'm not liking my Liberty right now. My lower back is in pain as is the right side of my right thigh -- this seat is torture. I can feel the metal frame in the side bolsters. Is this normal???? I want my Saab back :-(

Right now I do. I should not have to dread climbing into the seat of a vehicle. Loved my Saab, my old Wrangler and former g/f's Grand Cherokee. Test drove this Liberty and it reminded me of a civilized Wrangler so I bought it. Like it's size which is why I didn't go for a Grand Cherokee. Didn't want another Wrangler since I have to do so much highway driving these days to see my kids on the weekends.

Think I made a bad choice -- unless I can get this seat issue resolved.

its always a hit or miss with the sport seats. Some love them, some hate them. Its all about how your body structure is, if you got big thighs, thats probably why your feeling the bolts. I suggest seeing if you can get ahold of some limited seats, they are a different design.
