So right, many of these so called mods people do to the KJs do nothing at all since they need cams, headers, pistons, B&G reflash etc to even take advantage of more air like the larger TBs give you



When I got it custom tuned, that was probably the best bang for the buck coupled with a better exhaust. Gears would've been next on the list, but she took off with it lol.

Love the thread here but ig i like poking holes in theories and I think i learn more this way... So yall are citing youtube videos and dubious articles online that lets be honest were probably written by someone with less than noble goals behind it lolol. So lets say I threw a couple mean cams, some bad pistons, “custom” highflow exhaust, got some hot head work done, polished heads and throttle body. Would the tube type intake really be better than? The general thought seems to be that you need lots of internal work done to enjoy results of a new intake.. i like that yall cite hp and torque numbers and the others.. however just because it PEAKS 2hp above the stock intake doesn’t mean that its a good thing OR a bad thing. You would need the dyno charts to see the torque and hp curves. Also I think they’re is other considerations such as pcv.. i mean im not a scientist by any means lolol but I think there’s a bit of unchallenged pseudoscience goin on here.. which I can also be guilty of! So challenge me if im dead wrong on anything!!:)

The best “scientific” test I’ve seen comparing K&N filters to OEM filters is by Engineering Explained on YouTube.

He finds there is a slight but real improvement in performance with the K&N. But he doesn’t address any long term consequences of letting larger particles and oil from the filter into the intake, so I am not convinced it is a good thing for longevity. I want to keep my Jeep for as long as possible.

I've run an AEM brute force CAI (dry cone filter) for 15 years and over 120k in my 4.0L OHV ranger and never had an issue with my engine (187k now). I do run a hydrophobic prefilter and the kit does come with a box setup that draws air from around the headlight and grill, not just sucking hot engine air. Couldn't attest to performance since I put on a bigger throttle body and high flow exhaust at the same time. I do like the sound when you get on it but really doubt it did much for performance.

I now only use the white Hastings air filter.
I'm always concerned that performance filters may not filter as well as the stock filters.

Still using the best NAPA sells
always comes to the top of the list , so why not
Ran Hastings years ago , was a dealer for them even though just ran a small garage evenings/weekends

Ran K&N for a while back in the early 80s on the 900 Kaw with a big bore kit in in, worked for a short time before they hit the trash pile
Had a set up for the Harley I had then but after the Kaw didn't like them wasn't putting them on my daily

So would there be no noticable gains by boring and polishing the TB, adding the extra air inlet to the airbox, a free flow muffler, and possibly a TB Spacer from Airraid?

Not really, gearing best ****b a n g there is
Extra tube into intake ***** brings in more air but not really noticeable
Plus I only watch youtubers for the laughs at what some do

Don't you have the mod where you add the 3" inlet tube to your airbox from the front grill for a little "colder" air intake? I thought you run that on most of your kjs or at least for quite some time (mileage). Did it not benefit you at all?
I enjoy watching people show how they gained "25 hp" from a k&n or made a PVC air intake. Nice to see people make worse mistakes than me

Yes I run a 3 inch tube from grill to airbox on all 3 of mine BUT read pervious post in what I said

You said it brings in more air but isn't really noticeable. Why do you do it on all your rigs if it doesn't make much of a difference?

YouTube is great as a way to find a direction to fixing an issue.

I'm not building a racecar just a slightly better performing (whether wheels to road or in the gas tank) brick on wheels.

So right now I am definitely more tempted than ever in purchasing a K&N CAI. Are they worth it for a 2003 3.7L Jeep Liberty? Right now they are 20% off where im looking at getting them, and am so tempted to pull the trigger and get one. Any insight is much appreciated. Oh. and is the performance after installation noticeable?
i thought about putting one on my liberty but looking back i used them on motorcycles out of all the bikes i put them on only 2 maybe 3 bikes were ok , most ended up with flat spots and bad starting and the sound of desparetly drawing air , not a fan do look good though

The computer adjusts to any change on these vehicles and change the air/fuel ratio according to oxygen sensor readings
