This is the first winter i had my KJ and today was the first time i got to pull someone out of someones front yard. It was a old guy who overshot a turn and ended up on the sidewalk right behind his back tire in the picture/tree lawn of a house, he just missed the telephone pole to the left of the picture and knocked his mirror off. He dug himself down pretty deep before we found him, and due to it being a kia with only a towhook in the back (that i know of) i had to pull it backwards back through the yard a little bit.
I didn't even slip a tire pulling him out in 4 hi, but probably could of done it in 2wd theres about 10" of snow and we undug the snow around the car before pulling so it doesn't look to bad.

The guy offered me money but i couldn't accept it i was just glad to help out and i wish i got more pictures but again with the guy and a bunch of neighbors standing around it i didn't want to taking a bunch of pictures.
Anyone else have some pictures of getting some cars unstuck???

this is my second winter with mine and ive already pulled out 6 cars..........actually just one person, 6 times, with 2 different cars. Its my friend and he is a complete ******* in the winter, he thinks that drifting every turn he drives is cool, even in the city. he had an 01 audi in december and before he ruined that, he got stuck twice. then he got a ford focus and got stuck 4 more times. luckely hes been payin me for it so im happy everytime he calls cuz i get to laugh at his stupidity and damage, use my jeep for what its made for, and get paid!

Not pulled anyone out yet but could have once in December out buy the Mall. there was this guy stuck in a BMW Z3 roadster. He should not have been out on a day we got over 10 inches of snow. I helped to get him pushed out cus I didn't have a tow strap. Last week my tenant got his saturn stuck in the driveway I couldn't pull him cus his car was in the way and I could not get around him since its only one lane in and out. but I'm still looking for my chance.

Closest I came was loaning my snatch strap to someone who was using a 10 ft chain. They proceeded to double it while I was moving my jeep, and yanked the guy out, and the guy smashed into his bumper, and ran over my strap. Brand new ARB strap now with about 3 frayed filaments.

Lesson learned: don't lend stuff to *********.

Yeah there are too many of those people out there. While in daytona driving down the beach we watched an old blazer pulling out a minivan in spot it should of never been in to begin with. And he kept doing the get a running start and jerking the thing real hard. Well it got out and drove back into soft sand about 30 seconds later and got stuck. Having a topless TJ with the doors off on the beach down there is amazing!

That ARB strap must not be worth much then.... I got a strap thats about five years old, been driven over like a dozen times or so, dragged across dry pavement while towing disabled vehicles, you name it. Doesn't show hardly any wear... If you don't believe me i will take pictures and post.

Take some, will give me a frame of reference as to what he did to mine.

Basically it is like 1/2% frayed. Barely anything. Guy at work though tells me it will break next time I use it. I think that's kind of hilarious but then again I hate to get stuck with that as my only strap and it breaks...

He's probably used to cheapo 5k straps though. This thing is 17,000 lbs. I'm guessing it can still pull at 15 or 16 with just a couple filaments breaking...

Sometimes while driving down the highway through a blizzard I'll see somebody off the road but upright. I'll stop to see if they're okay but I don't offer to pull them out unless it's somebody I know. I'm not mean it's just common sense.

#1 they may be drunk and don't belong on the road
#2 they may be stupid for trying to drive through a blizzard in a Prius and don't belong on the road
#3 you might damage your ride
#4 you might damage their ride (and you'll get sued)
#5 somebody may get hurt by flying broken tow straps, hitch balls, bumpers, body panels, etc (and you'll get sued)
#6 it's dangerous to try to pull somebody back onto the road with traffic flying by
#7 he's already called a tow truck or a buddy with an AWD Subaru

I've seen firsthand what can happen when you "tug" a vehicle. I saw a Suzuki Sidekick that was stuck in a ditch deep in the woods. A large pickup truck tried to tug it out and managed to tear the Suzuki's front bumper clean off ,complete with the winch that was attached to it. Luckily nobody got hit. There was a lot of "liquid stupid" flowing that day.

I will do that the next chance i get... Mine shows surface wear but thats about it...

But from what your saying its just a bit of the surface roughed up right, like a worn rug or carpet with some fibers sticking up? Thats nothing to worry about thats just surface abrasion, and all straps suffer that. I think the worst spot on mine is where it got under the tire of a car because the idiot let it coast forward onto the strap, then i had to pull slowly to pull the strap out from under his tire to get going again. I left a black tire mark on it and a bit of abrasion from the road but nothing that is affecting the tension strength of the strap.

I was told when i got certified for overhead crane use at a past employer, we used straps like these tow straps all the time, that when inspecting them if they have cuts deeper than 1/8" on them to cut one end off and discard them. Surface abrasion that doesn't reveal the core of the strap is also ok.

But then they did also take any questionable straps and replace them every half year. We used to go dumpster diving and get them for free tow straps, i had one 20k strap that had surface wear on it that i got from the dumpster, we used that on the farm and finally broke it five years or so later, we were pulling a tractor out of a mud hole with a larger 4wd tractor to break it.

I wish i could find some snow that deep to go play in! Looks like a blast :D
I love the people that have 4wd or awd, but sh!tty tires and wonder why they are stuck. The right tires definitely make the biggest difference in the snow!
