Reads like an insult.

As I said in my original post with the pic, I made my own ramps. I did this because I didn't like the "store bought" ones and the ones I made are way more stable. For some things like a simple oil change, ramps come in handy. For other things, using jacks is necessary and I have several for that purpose. Whatever you use, safety is the primary concern, of course.

Dave

I apologize if it came across that way, it was not my intent.

You are talking to a guy who just used a pneumatic assist engine hoist as a car lift, 4 times, and again to put a scrap chassis on a trailer.

I don't know how much more redneck it can get than that, so I guess I don't feel like my post was insulting too much. On the flip side, my jobs were done right, so that's not redneck.

The point of my post is that while they work, there are as many safety issues with car ramps as there are with jack stands, if not more.

Jack stands / car ramps like anything can cause issues if not used right
But then I've seen people pick up a hammer and hurt themselves.
I have a set of ramps that I bought in 1970, still use them with no issues what so ever. Well not on the KJ don't need them :Big Laugh:
Anytime you have something jacked up you have to be careful, I even saw a brand new F150 come off the rack when I worked in the dealership

Use them right they are great tools,
use them wrong and you're the fool

I use jack stands, I just make sure they are on a flat surface (my drive way pads have all settled at different heights so I make sure I'm not bridging one with a jack stand). Mainly because ramps seem like a pita to store and honestly, having two high ground clearance vehicles, I don't need to raise them unless it's suspension related or a tire rotation.

I wanna tune up my lib and have a quick Q. Removing the bolts from the trans pan and difs does not seem feasible without lifting it. Jackstands scare me (at least ones I have used before like HF ones). Does anyone use/recommend ramps to get under their vehicle? They seem safer to me.....
yes. use ramps. they are safe unless theyre rusted or set uneven. be sure to keep the tires and ramps even and level. use wheel chocks. if you want more protection, use jackstand just snug under the jeep after getting it on the ramp.

i always pull on the ramps, ceck for level and eveness, and bolck the back wheels.
