Hello everyone, new to the forums. I recently bought a 2004 Liberty and have noticed an issue with my lights dimming. It generally happens when i use my power locks (every time when they auto lock), power windows and it happens when idling. It has an aftermarket remote start which i'm starting to think is the culprit but not sure. The battery is new and the alternator has less than 4k miles on it. Just wondering if anyone has had this issue or has any ideas as to what i can do?

Thanks!

Pretty much all cars have a small amount of dimming when at idle. My Liberty does it less than my Colorado did, but this may be because I have the tow package (bigger alternator = more amps).

If it's really bothering you, you could try adding a larger alternator; maybe one from the tow package?

Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure it wasn't something wrong like a loose ground or anything.

Sounds normal, but if you like, most auto parts stores will do a charging system test for free.

I would be checking grounds and measuring voltages. Mine doesn't dim even at idle and with my stereo system on.

Mine's always dimmed a bit since I got it. Not majorly. Barely noticeable. Been trying higher CCA batteries but doesn't make much difference.

Agreed..even my old KJ does not dim the lights.

OP needs to first check all battery connections are clean and tight, the negative lead going to the chassis is clean and tight and the grounding strap grounding the engine to the chassis is clean and tight both ends. Also check the grounds on your light sockets are good.

Place a meter over the battery and monitor the voltage...should be about 12.5 volt when OFF, not less than 10 volts when turning the engine over, about 13.5 volts while running. Should not drop much at all at idle when you turn lights on.

Maybe battery or alternator is suspect.
