That is what is supposed to be in these things when manual. I just picked up a 2whl drive parts vehicle, with a 5 speed. Soon as my shop is done, plan on putting my 2002 KJ sport 4x4 with a blown motor back on the tarmac. I am thinking of converting it to 5 speed, to up the level of difficulty LOL. Anyone know anything about the two five speeds listed above, how to identify them and tell them apart, and what is entailed in swaps, if they ever came as a 4x4 trans? If they were offered as a 4x4, and I have the right trans, it means I can swap on the rear section is my way of thinking, to add the trans case.

I reckon the NV1500 trans is for the 4cyl. I suspect the bellhousing pattern is different for 4cyl and V6. The NSG370 6spd took over for 05+.

Changing a 2wd trans to a 4wd will take some work - most likely a tail housing and a main shaft. At that point you have the trans split apart as though you are rebuilding it. A Jeep TJ NV3550 might be able to donate the required parts, or of course the Liberty 4wd NV3550.

I've got a CRD with the NV3550, strong gearbox. Have a look on the Novak site for info on them.
