I was wondering, is Lucas 5w30 'synthetic' oil blended or full synth? It doesn't say on the jug anywhere, and I've never ran it, any thoughts on this stuff?

Well it says synthetic so it's synthetic. If it were a blend it would say blended

My thoughts too, but I've run across jugs that say synthetic o the front and then somewhere in the fine print on the back it says blended woth conventional oils or something to that tune

I think they have to label the oil properly so if it says "synthetic" it must be that, and there are required specifications for it to qualify to be labeled "synthetic" . Some oils say "full synthetic" on the label too. If the oil is a mix of synthetic and dino, it should say "blend or blended". That's the way I understand it anyway.

The Valvoline I have been using says "full synthetic" on the label.

If it does not say 'FULL Synthetic" it probably isn't, it will be a blend.

There are only about 4 "true" synthetic oils on the market, all the others saying "synthetic" are actually highly refined conventional oil that meets the requirements to be called synthetic.

Regular Mobil 1 synthetic = conventional oil, there Extended Performance Mobil 1 oil is there "true" synthetic oil.

Pennzoil does not make a true synthetic, there new stuff is made from natural gas.

Valvoline does not make a true synthetic oil either.

Never used it,only run Mobil 1 in the engine,Valvoline ATF+4 in the trans,Valvoline VR1 synthetic 20w-50 in t-case,and Valvoline 85w-140 in both diffs.

I have used there gear oil before and it's good, don't know anything about there engine oil. There oil stabilizer is snake oil.

I have been using the "Valvoline full synthetic" with no issues for a while. I have used other "synthetic" labeled oils though.

I have a case of NAPA 5w30 "synthetic" they had on sale a while back but haven't started using it yet. It doesn't say "blend" on it. It is the first time I have bought oil not branded by a major oil co. Hope the KJ doesn't puke it up.....LOL

I will need to do some more oil research I guess.

The main factor is keeping the lifters & oil clean with frequent oil/filter changes.
I don't want to see a rocker puke up LOL!
There should be no problems while using a semi-synthetic-blended brand of 5w-30 engine oil.
I have noticed that by 2500 miles the KJ AM oil check is not as clean anymore, so I change it then.

If refined enough conventional oil can be labeled "synthetic" by law here in the USA and most of the world.

I always figured if the Blackstone Labs report comes back and says the oil still has service life left after I've pulled it, them I'm good to go. For the record I run Walmart's Super Tech "Full Synthetic" oil, and even after a 6000 mile interval in the jeep it comes back with enough life left. I think the last report said I could go another 2000 miles estimated. Not that I would.

Wouldn't use Lucas stuff, the oil stabilizer is junk. So many other good choices out there.

FWIW, the Napa syn is very similar to Valvoline syn power according to many virgin and used oil analysis.

i tried walmart supertech.
didn't like it as it didn't work well with my high mileage engine.

My engine ate it a lot faster.

If I remember right Shell makes supertech oil.

One major point about supertech oil and any other product sold at wallmart is they are "built to price" so the quality is not a high priority.Granted there oil must meet the basic API ratings.

agreed. my HM engine ate it a lot faster.
I don't think it had a lot of the additives like the bigger oil brands do.

Although I do use supertech's ATF+4 and gear oil.
now they just need to sell HOAT.

I've had good experiences using Supertech in most of my vehicles, except my GMC Acadia. It consumed more than what I was content with, but still within manufacturers tolerances.

My KJ ate a little bit more of it than normal, but the oil that it likes best is Valvoline High Mileage. It did OK on Mobil 1 HM as well, but the Valvoline was smoother (quieter valvetrain) with the least consumption. Although the Mobil 1 HM gives me about .5 higher MPG averaged out over the life of the OCI.

I need to start keeping a log of oil and filter brands and types used in my vehicles; I always meant to and wish I had. I've tried some oils and filters in the past that were great, or not so great, and I can't remember which is which all of the time.
