Hi everyone,
I bought a 2.8 120Kw Jeep Liberty Sport one year ago.

Since then I'm having troubles with some errors codes.

The ones I'm always having since the beginning are
- P0560
- P0070

The external temperature sensor has been replaced two times and the problem is not fixed.
For the P0560, the mechanic changed the alternator clutch or whatever it is, saying that the belt was sometimes slipping.
That can be true since I was also having occasional problems with the alternator and the battery light on the dash.
This didn't fix the P0560 error, though.

After changing also a couple of glow plugs and the water temperature sensor due to some other occasional errors, it started having problem with the automatic transmission.

The clutch was slipping and sometimes it wasn't shifting properly or just shifting until the 3rd gear.
Then the error P0700 appeared and also one other I don't remember, also related to the transmission, saying something about engine RPM. The tachometer is working well, so it could be a communication issue between the ECU and the TCM.

The mechanic decided to change both the sensors on the transmission but the problem didn't fix.

Now they say that they couldn't find the way to calibrate those sensors since the TCM doesn't have any options for it.
They are also saying that they cannot connect to the ECU anymore even if they told me the P0070 and P0560 errors are still there and there isn't any other error related to the transmission.

Apparently, the transmission is still not shifting properly.
I'm abroad now and can't go to check.

This is the resume of what happened until today.
My question is about the ECU. They've sent me some pictures and it is clearly visible that the module has been manipulated.
This was done before I bought the car and I'm 100% sure about that because I saw it before but didn't realize it was opened and sealed with silicon o whatever it is.

Now the question: how can I make sure that is the original ECU for that model?
I can see that there are many for selling with the code P56044 but the second part can be different.
Mine is 561BD.

How does that mean? Can be replace by any other P56044?

I'm not sure the ECU is the problem but I don't want a manipulated one in my car.

Thank you in advance to all of you for the answer.
I'm in Italy, anyway.

Both the faults are voltage related, has the alternator output been checked? Has the battery been tested? Are all the earth leads in good condition?
Check the gearbox oil level.
The cuts in the insulation on the cables look like someone has been testing the wiring, did the car have these faults when you bought it?

The alternator is supposed to be new and the code matches. I have to ask the car electrician of they checked it. I'm pretty sure nobody tested the ground.

Unfortunately, yes. There was a sponge in the dash to hide the light. I did the dash lights check and realized the light was not working so I asked them to give me a proof the car doesn't have any fault code. I still have the printing from the computer saying that there was no error.

I guess it was due to the fact that the computer didn't support that kind of protocol so well.

I've found the sponge when I disassembled the dash searching for the light bulb to change. Then I also realized that there is an LED and it's working perfectly.

For future reference, the code is the one highlighted in the picture. That's the model and you have to search for an ECU with the same code. The rest doesn't matter.

If you don't find somebody with a scanner for old protocols such as this SAE J1850 VPW, you can search for somebody with a Bosch scanner. They have their internal codes and will recognize the ECU.

I fixed all my problem by changing the ECU. For now the MIL is off, the external temperature sensor is showing the correct temperature, the transmission is changing properly and there is no more P0560 error.
