I'm getting ready to install Cruise Control on my KJ, being an 07' it has fly by wire which the method for the CRD's should work to flash the computer for install. Though that isn't my concern, I do not have the annoying upshift light which usually you find on all manual transmission cars. While it is a blessing since I hate having a light telling me when I should shift and is against my training and experience, did the KJ Liberty come with an upshift light? Reason why I ask this is the light is usually tied in to a switch at the clutch pedal, understand I found this out the hard way when I had to make a presidential solution on the switch for my Focus after I cut it to get rid of the upshift light, the consequence was I couldn't use cruise because the switch was ''active'' meaning the clutch disengaged from the transmission. So I was forced to live with the upshift light since I did not want to tear out the gage cluster to remove the light.

This is what I want to hear, looking good, looking very good. Means my cruise control install should be a breeze then without worries.

I have an 06. I don't believe it has an upshift light, but I will check wiring diagrams later today and post.

Mine doesn't have a light, but its an '02. Maybe it was something Chrysler was playing around with for the 2008 redesign? My mom's '95 Ford Escort had one--drove me crazy!

I haven't seen an upshift light since we got rid of the 1986 Plymouth Reliant wagon we used to have. it had a "fuel pacer" Light where the PRNDL panel should have been.

Are you sure you'll need to flash the computer? I'd first just try retro'ing in the controls and see what happens.

I have fly by wire, no actual throttle cable the computer will have to be flashed to accept and recognize it has cruise control. Its not really the computer its more the BCM actually than anything since it is part of the fly by wire control system. No vacuum tubes nothing like that its just controls and a flash. There's a method that is used without hooking up a Star Trac.

I am pleased to report, the install went well. It took three attempts to flash the computer using the MerlinTec Trick but it worked. I now have Cruise installed and working!

No upshift light on any KJ Liberty.

I've driven a few cars with that upshift light.
That's gotta be the most annoying thing ever!

Oh no sir. I dated a girl who had a car with the upshift light. Whenever we would go out, I would drive. When we took her car, she was adamant that I shifted when the light came on, because if I didn't I would break her transmission. :emotions122:

Needless to say that relationship didn't last long haha.

I hate and I mean I hate upshift lights, my Focus had an ORANGE upshift arrow. Talk about making want to tear my hair out all the time, I wouldn't have minded if it were any other color, just any other color I could learn to ignore it like I did the cruise light since it was green on the cluster. But no that damn thing had to be Orange so when it came on it would make me flip out that the CEL light was coming on. For six years I put up with that because I didn't want to rip out the cluster to remove the light bulb nor did I want to pay a stupid amount of money at the dealership to have it done.

I think a Focus was the first stick I drove with an upshift light. I had always HEARD of them but never SEEN one until I drove a Focus. Ick. Yellow and *bright* too, right there in your face. Ugh.

Oh upshift lights have been around for a long time, seen them on a lot of manual trans cars and SUV's. Which is why I was shocked that I didn't have an upshift light in the Jeep when there was one in a Patriot I took on a joy ride. But I do love I don't have one makes driving very pleasant. Though GM is the most annoying you actually have a light that says SHIFT come on!
