http://www.justforjeeps.com/restfor08and.html

My question is how to I get my new keys cut and programmed for my vehicle. I dont want to go to the dealership. I read something how I can buy another key off ebay, but Im unsure as to how that works?

It say's all you need to do already........
***INSTALLATION MUST BE DONE BY DEALERSHIP FOR PROGRAMMING ISSUES. Vehicle MUST all ready have remote keyless entry, gas engine, and automatic transmission BEFORE installing this remote start kit.***
Looks like the dealership is the only way since it seems the KK's need the scarscan to program the remote start feature and program the keys to the system, sorry but that is the way it is.

x2 on the "Dealership Must Perform Installation".

Nowadays, every Chrysler seems to have the capability for options. My WK doesn't have foglights. But all I need to do is buy the fog lights, install them, the switch, wiring is already there, and have the dealer enable the fog lights in the computer. Bam, it'll work. Installing the remote start is no different, dealer has to enable it via computer. Another example is the Cruise Control on the Liberty. Guess what? All you seem to really need is the switch, some wiring I think, and for it to be enabled via computer.

I don't believe it, you mean the vehicle's computer has to be programed to allow operation of every accessory?? Why would they design it like that? to keep the dealership service bays busy??

Sometimes I long for the days of simple engines with carburetors that didn't have electronic ignition systems or ECM's. I still have a problem trying to understand an automatic transmission that has a computer.

It truly is getting to the point where we can't do anything to our vehicles without going to a dealer that has a $3,000 programer.(That's the price I saw on a DRB III on ebay once)

It's sad really. `

That's what I really loved about my '66 Bronco. One wire to the distributor and one to the starter.

What needs to happen is aftermarket needs to step up and begin offering DIY tuners.

THESE guys basically started out of a garage. They allow you to tune ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you'd ever want. Their website is way out of date - they only show pre-tuned PCM's for sale. They have a tuning package you can run on a laptop to tweak to your heart's desire.

I agree 100% but they probably run into trouble because the programming is probably proprietary.

At one point I started to price the stuff for a remote start but backed off because I didn't think I could install it and the dealer wanted too much and I didn't know who to go to that would do a good job with it. I wish I was more comfortable messing with wireing and such.
