Ive seen references ranging from FLowmaster 44s, MagnaFlows, and glasspacks.

What i want is a muffler that is louder than the stock one.. but

1. doesn't sound like a rice burner fart can
2. isnt so god-awful loud that itll be obnoxious, give me headaches, or drive my 3 year old deaf.
3. preferably is one that can keep as much of the stock system in tact..

ideas?
experiences?

Probably a Flowmaster. Those sound the best to me at least.

Ive got the 50 and wouldnt want it to be any louder. Its hard to not get a little rasp out of a V-6 engine. The louder the muffler the more you will hear it in the higher RPM's.

I like my ride to be quiet

Granted if you heard the way my muffler rattles on my TJ
you would respond with WTF?
But I do have an excuse there ,trail rash
Then again it is not my DD so I dont worry much about noise

Check on Ebay, I think it was "Ed's Exhaust Shack" vendor "edr7151" or something like that. Anyways, that's the MBRP factory clearance center. I got my stainless steel cat back direct from MBRP thru the FleaBay vendor for about $380 CDN. Two words, Awe-some.

I had a Flo Pro ( Flowmaster 44 knockoff ) on for 138,000 miles, finally took it off!!! The drone at 65/70 was getting so bad you couldn't talk in the cabin!
Installed a Magnaflow with a turn down right behind the muffler, simple , can hear it but not loud and doing great!

Flowmaster 50 SUV here... I agree with JeepJeepster, it's louder, but not too loud, and I don't find it raspy or obnoxious in any way - just a nice rumble, I really like the sound of it.

I can't recall the details but there is a restriction just before the muffler which can be cut off, I think it goes down from 3 to 2 1/2"... if you cut it off in the right place you can use a 3" muffler? I don't have time to look it up, perhaps someone else can verify this info. I will try to look up the flowmaster model I bought.

Here it is:

FLO-52557

50 Series SUV Muffler, A Larger Version Of The 50 Series Designed For Trucks And SUVs, 2 1/2 Center Inlet, 2 1/2 Offset Outlet, 5 x 10 x 23 Overall Length, Oval.

I think I was off regarding the restriction, it may be down to 2"?

I have a Magnaflow and it is not quite as loud as the Flowmasters to me but does give a nice sound I would not really want it any louder.
