Okay, so I went and took my factory key and made a standard dupilcate. Not figuring it would turn over the engine, it did. So what's the difference between my keys and the "Transponder uncut keys" I see on Ebay?
I thought all the keys had a special microchip in them to enable ignition and prevent theft?
My wife's Mitsu Outlander does...

do you have the grey keys?
if not then u have the standard none sentry key unit system.
i think the engine will still turn over if u use a regular key w/ sentry equipped KJ's..it's just gonna kill the engine after a minute or so....

The plastic portion on the factory keys are black. I didn't know there was a color difference. Black key, black interior, so on...

I am not sure about our Libertys but I know on other DC vehicle lines the sentry key immobilizer can be added, its just a device that attaches around rhe ignition switch and plugs into the wiring harness, with it you get 2 new keys that have to be programmed, costs around $200.00 installed
